6/10 Good

Seems to have changed

A Much Looked Forwartd to Return Trip: This holiday held some very special meaning for us and so we returned to the Ses Estaques after we had such a great holiday last year and I want to begin by saying how good the location is and the setting. The staff are very good (there are always some exceptions) the dining and cleaning teams are very good and go a long way to keeping everyone happy, Sam and Nicky on reception are excellent, but we noted there was just not the same feeling we had experienced previously. It just seemed there was something different, our room upgrade this year gave us a bottle of wine some fruit (just the once) and towelling robes and slippers-'not really value for money'-our first observations were the new and more expensive and adjoining hotel which seems to have sucked the life out of this hotel and we also noted Juan Carlos the manager, was moving on and he was very important in how the hotel had functioned last time we visited, the previous chef has retired (so the food was ok but not as good as before) the restaurant manager has also changed and there were days when the team were struggling to meet demand. This year there was an absolute epidemic of people (British) putting out towels as early as 4-5am which quickly absorbed the sun beds to the point on several days there were not enough and these people often left the beds for hours and this is also affected by the new hotel, which took away the area previously used for beds, and interestingly the two facilities cannot be used by the other so the gym and the many unused sun beds were totally off limits, which could be a big oversight I feel. One other thing - breakfast/evening meal times - there should be flexibility on this, not everyone one wants an early evening meal and the rule about trousers for men.we agree with and people being smart for dinner, but some of the women were going to dinner in unsuitable attire and on a number of occasions guys were in for dinner wearing shorts which it clearly states is not allowed; definitely these issues need to be clarified and maintained. The entertainment was definitely not as good as before, largely made up of a couple who were average and sang morning, noon and night or the hotel reps made a vain effort to put on their own interpretation of a show, apart from Tom Lea, the outside performers were also poor, one group could seem to make their minds up what tribute band they were. We subsequently would check out the act for the evening and spent most evenings at venues in the main town, but Olivia, Jonathan and the team on the outside bars were fantastic, once again making up for the shortfall in other areas. We felt the hotel is tired and needed a good make-over (which it seems there may be this year) and that Catalonia Hotels were focusing on a new venture adjacent but at the cost of the very people (far more than ourselves) who have enabled the hotel to year on year obtain such high praise, albeit we understand the return rate is down this year and maybe that is the cost of the main values at this hotel being undermined, for example[le we spoke with a number of people who had visited 8-10 times and they were voicing disappointment at the way it has changed. For us it was sad because we felt after the previous visit we had found the best hotel to return too, but its now very unlikely following this trip which is a great shame because it also devalued the importance to us of this holiday. I am sure there will be those who will return regardless, but I would ask Catalonia Hotels to take note, you had something great so before its too late, unless of course you want to run it down and focus on the higher cost sister hotel, next door. Show less Room Tip: Many regular visitors are given their specific room, with very nice positions that will not be avail... Stayed: August 2017, travelled as a couple
