Disappointing

Having stayed at the Destina a couple of times before, we had a good idea of what to expect. Having also read on-line that it had been re-furbished, we thought it could only be better. However, upon arrival it became apparent that it hasn't been re-furbished at all. It might have had a coat of paint, and apparently some rooms now have a flat screen tv, but it would appear that is the extent of the 're-furbishment'. The general quality has gone down, food, service etc., the whole place is just looking tired and dated now. It was still quite cool on an evening, being under the shadow of the mountain , but still we were forced to sit outside as the dining room closed for cleaning and drinks were only served at the pool bar. They had a good animation team for a number of years but they too have gone their separate ways and the replacement so far this year, whilst keen, is sadly lacking. The whole place just had the feel of being run on a zero budget. The internet was dreadful, if you could get on then it was ridiculously slow, no English channels on the tv (We don't expect UK tv but you can usually get at least one news channel and a music channel). Even though 90 % of the guests are from the UK, it seems that the owners and management are not interested in catering for them or trying to improve anything. We will not be staying there again, and if you have fond memories of a visit there a few years ago, keep them, and try somewhere else.

The best thing about my stay was...

Canan, the nice girl running the pool bar

we found the Destina very clean and the staff very friendly we went October and had no problems getting a sun bed the food was nice but could have varied a little more especially breakfast the outside eating area could do with a no smoking area as not all of us like to eat whilst taking in other rude peoples second hand smoke the bar staff was always very friendly and eager to please breakfast is at 8am but you cant get a drink of tea or coffee before then so a kettle in your room would be preferable saying this we would certainly go back

The best thing about my stay was...

views and pool area very relaxing

Destination Destina

I would have given this hotel a 10 point score had there been no issues at all. Overall the room, food selection and quality and quantity were excellent absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Staff really friendly especially in the shop even if not buying anything. The entertainment in the evenings was varied when it was provided. Bar opened at 11am which in my opinion is late as people were around the pool by 9am, even if they only offerred soft drinks before 11am this would be an improvement, it would also be nice if they had an ice cream machine for children as they do in most other all inclusive hotels or even just had it as an option for dessert. One last thing was the staff's inability to deal with noisy people in the early hours, I had no real problem but some of the people in my party had to call reception after 3 am to get them to do anything about this. Having said that I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends and family. The location is a short bus ride to the beach, free if you use the hotel bus. It's about a 10 minute walk DOWNHILL into town so if you walk back allow at least 20-25 but a taxi was only 10 TL (£3), if you do go shopping I would recommend @ Genghis Khan's market on the left side of the street before you get in the main town area, he did me a great deal on items I bought and his prices were initially cheaper than the stores in town to begin with. If you tell them them ' Big Jon ' sent you he should do you a good deal. The group I was with was a wedding party of about 20 people with ages varying between 4 to 70 which is why I have selected 'other' below.

The best thing about my stay was...

Large pool, plenty of sunbeds.

Excellent Hotel

First visit to this hotel and had a great time. All of the staff were really friendly and welcoming, Gadget the entertainment guy is really helpful if you want to organise trips or like us a paraglide. The food was really good with a good variety, Turkish soups are the best and the Destina's didn't disappoint.

hotel review

just got back from a week at destina. hotel basic and rooms not bad although a bit on the small side, pool lovely but maybe a little more space for sunbeds on a busy period of the year. guys at the bars were brilliant, we were all inclusive and I must admit the food wasnt great, pretty basic, not a great variety, ate out a few times at a local restaurant, evitas, which does a mean steak. while we were there a lot of people seemed to come down with a bug, the source unknown, i will say no more. this was the only downfall to our holiday, would defo go back to the area but unfortunately not the hotel.

The best thing about my stay was...

laidback feeling of the resort, no hustle bustle.

Relaxing holiday, made lots of friends, would go back!

Hotel Destina, Ovacik, Turkey is beautifully situated on a hilltop site. It is surrounded on three sides by stunning green scenery of the mountains and each evening you are able to watch the sun setting whilst eating dinner in the family run hotel restaurant. The pool has to be the second best feature, as it is large, clean and very family friendly. There are 'just' enough sun beds if you are down reasonably early to sunbathe, although the Animation Team will move guests towels if they do not come to use the facilities by 11am. A great practice! Food is good, varied (although chicken if often on the menu) and the daily soups are very scrummy!! There is a large selection of continental breakfast choices- bread, salads, meats, cheeses along with eggs, frankfurters, toast and cereals. Hot meals are limited to several choices per day for lunch and dinner but the salad bar is extensive, there is always soup and the dessert range is wide. Hotel staff are very helpful, courteous and polite. They work hard, long hours and are happy to accommodate you in any way they can. The hotel owners were there during our stay and they welcome constructive comments from guests in order to improve your stay (and have made changes due to these). The maid service was efficient for our needs, towels and bedding being changed on a regular basis and the room always seemed clean. There is soap provided for in the shower (there is no bath) and the sink. Plenty of toilet paper always available (though it is put in the bin and not the toilet). The Animation Team is a mature couple from Wales who are delightful! They work long hours and are always open to new suggestions. They try to vary the nightly entertainment- there are 'some' games and acts for children but it is mostly geared towards the adults and does start a bit late, usually 10.30pm. They do get you involved in the pool, darts, volley ball etc during the day!! Hisaronou is within walking distance down the hill. We often came back after midnight and even walking this late felt quite safe on our own. A taxi would cost £3 or 6 Turkish lira without a tip. There are numerous clubs, pubs, restaurants, Turkish lads dancing on the bars (in most bars), fire shows, a fun fair, live entertainment nightly, so many types of shops selling everything you could want! We loved our holiday, and would in a few years possibly consider going back. It is '3 star', so you get what you pay for... a relaxing holiday, with brilliant weather, a good hotel with great staff, fab food, ok entertainment in a sensational location which goes towards excellent value for money! There is a shuttle bus run daily from the hotel, which is free, to the beautiful beach in Olu Deniz and the Blue Lagoon. Again it is surrounded by the mountains on three sides and situated in a protected area which cannot be further built upon. The hotel takes you to the 'Seahorse Restaurant' whereby the sun beds are free to guests and you pay for lunch and drinks. The lads are a scream behind the bar, and talk fluent English. They are also delightful to the kids and have a variety of tricks up their sleeves to show off and keep them entertained. Despite being roadside beach toilets, they are clean and well stocked with soap and paper. There is also a shower to use. On the beach there are changing rooms additionally. If you don't fancy waiting until 5.30pm for the hotel bus to collect you, there is quite a walk back up the long, hot road to the shops and restaurants in the resort. There you can get a dolmus bus (local) back for about 2.50 Turkish lira. Fetiyeh has a huge street market on a Tuesday that is worth a visit (especially if you 'want' not 'need' anything). There is fruit and veg, leather goods, hats, bags, t-shirts, toys, watches, jewellery, an abundance of clothes and so it goes on...The sellers have all the English banter to make you buy, know all the shop names at home- Asda, M&S, Primark etc. It is an eye opener and not for the faint hearted!! This costs 2.50 Turkish lira by dolmus or negotiate with a taxi driver and you can go for about 25 lira. At night the Garden Restaurant (see animation team) in Fetiyeh, do traditional Turkish food. Once you have eaten your starter you can climb up to visit the tombs (free), admire the bayside view, then come down to finish your meal, have a little Turkish dancing and the staff drop you back at your hotel whenever you want(free pick up too, just leave a small tip). There are loads of boat trips to wonderful nearby places to visit, swim around, sit off the coast from, and all add to that very Turkish experience. It is worth investigating all the choices of trips and places of interest to see. Turkey is huge and the scenery very varied all over the country. Even if things go wrong or not quite what you imagined it to be, it's all an adventure!...and what you make it! We love Turkey, which is why we have kept coming back. The people are so very accommodating and pleasant. Each new resort and experience continues to add up to an excellent holiday!!!

The best thing about my stay was...

Stunning scenery, friendly staff and excellent hotel pool
