Vienna is a city with many facets. The first thing that visitors notice is the striking baroque architecture and its monumental edifices, a testament to the Habsburg dynasty which ruled over the city, however scratching the surface reveals a much younger and more dynamic city, characterised by its developing music and cultural scene. The city is packed with attractions to suit all types of tourists and boasts fifty theatres, four opera houses and one-hundred museums. Those looking for peace and relaxation can take advantage of the abundance of green spaces or venture into the city’s very own National Park, which stretches between Vienna and Bratislava. When is comes to food and drink visitors are not short of options, from the popular coffee-houses to the taverns and restaurants, Vienna has something to suit all budgets.

I would recommend getting the 72 hour transport pass. It's great value & gets u to all the sights, by tram underground etc. The buildings are stunning it really is a beautiful city. You must go to a concert of Mozart, Strauss etc they are fantastic. Use the hop on hop off bus to it's a great way to see the city & decide what you want to go & see. The coffee houses & cakes are to die for. Also behind Stephenplatz there is the most amazing wine bar?shop? chocs ets. great place to try the Austrian wines.

The best thing about my stay was ...

So much to see

We have been to Vienna many times and will go back many more. There is so much to see, fabulous buildings, architecture, friendly people and oh those coffee shops! Essential is a bus trip around the city to see the main sights, then choose from so many places to go. Belvedere Palace, Hofburg Palace, the Schonbrunn, St Stephens Cathedral, the Anker Clock (best at noon when all the characters pass from one side to the other), Stadtpark with it's statues and lake. There are simply too many things to list! For a reasonably priced and very good coffee (try the local melange, a frothy milky coffee) and cake go to the Aida chain, they are everywhere in Vienna, you can't miss them as they are pink! Our favourite restaurants - Salm Brau, a brewery and restaurant in the Rennweg serving local dishes and home brewed beer. Also the Art Corner Restaurant on Prince Eugen Strasse near the side entrance to the Belvedere Palace. This is a Greek restaurant with a very warm welcome and fabulous food (they do local dishes too) Transport is cheap, frequent and very easy to use. Buy a 3 day Vienna card to use all public transport in the city free and it also gives discounts into lots of places.

Beautiful city

Vienna is a really nice place to visit. We were there for 3.5 days and this wasn't long enough to see and do everything that we wanted to. There are many nice buildings to look at and admire. There's a huge selection of shops, restaurants and bars in the city centre. Our tour guide on the city sightseeing bus told us that 50% of the city is green space so there are plenty of nice parks to walk through too.

Short stay in Vienna

Lovely city - lots to see and do but fairly compact and easy to get round on underground. Airport has a fast CAT train sevice to city centre (16 mins). Lots of beautiful architecture, palaces and parks. Spanish Riding school (Lippizzaner horses) is a must see as is an evening concert of Mozart/Strauss which are on offer everywhere in the city. I didnt go to the state opera house but to a small concert but it was superb value for money, excellent standard of musicians and very enjoyable.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Apple strudel and coffee houses!
