Sunny Beach Overview
The liveliest resort on the Black Sea
Sunny Beach is the newest and most popular holiday resort in Bulgaria. Renowned for its popular nightclubs and bars as well as its lovely hot summers and beautiful coastal location, it really lives up to its name! It is host to a variety of attractions for groups and families alike, whilst being a cheaper alternative to other European destinations. Sunny Beach is a truly up-and-coming resort.
What’s there
With a myriad of restaurants, bars and nightclubs scattered throughout the centre, on Flower Street and along the coast, there’s plenty of choice for all – whether you’re looking for a lunchtime snack or an evening meal overlooking the waves, or if you’re wanting to taste a variety of cocktails and dance the night away.
What Lies Beyond
If you’re looking for a day out, look no further than the ancient fishing village of Nessebar. This picturesque UNESCO World Heritage site is only a short bus ride away from Sunny Beach centre, with buses departing from the top of Flower Street roughly every 15 minutes.
Things to do in Sunny Beach
8 km of sandy beaches
With a large stretch of golden sand along the coastline, Sunny Beach’s Blue Flag awarded beach is ideal for sunbathers and beach-goers alike. Plenty of sunbeds lie at your disposal (for a small fee) so you can comfortably top up your tan whilst listening to the gentle waves lap the shore. And if you need more relaxation, why not try a massage from one of dedicated masseurs, who offer a variety of rubdowns to relieve even the greatest tensions.
Top Tip:
Remember to buy insurance that includes watersports, as the outstanding views whilst parasailing or jet-skiing make them firm favourite activities.
Traditional Cheverme Grill
Along the back streets of Sunny Beach there are traditional-style restaurants with large spit-roasts outside, often called Cheverme. It may seem strange, but it is part of the rustic charm that makes the slow roasted pork and chicken the most popular meats on offer. Don’t worry if you are vegetarian, as dishes such as Shakshuka (eggs in a spicy tomato sauce) and Gyuvetch (vegetable stew) come highly recommended.
Top Tip:
A large stein of beer can cost as little as half the price of a pint at home, so keep an eye out for the special offers board outside bars and restaurants to get your money’s worth.
Party the night away
Sunny Beach is becoming well known for its lively nightlife and is now a serious rival to the Spanish clubbing resorts in Majorca and Ibiza. The most popular clubs, including Revolution, Disco Orange and Party Club Iceberg, regularly feature famous guest DJs and host world-famous Ministry of Sound and Hedkandi nights.
Top Tip:
Be sure to visit the reps along Flower Street if you want a great deal – offers include nightclub entry plus a drink and a ticket for another event!
Souvenirs for all
The promenade along the beach front is ideal for souvenirs of Sunny Beach. With gifts ranging from the typical magnets to leather goods for the family, to more personal souvenirs, such as hair braiding and tattooing, the promenade features plenty of opportunity to purchase keepsakes for all.
Top Tip:
If you’re looking for souvenirs for a large group (or self-catering), the large supermarket M.M. by Action Waterpark offers bargain prices for big bags of souvenir sweets and the best value for day-to-day food and drink.
Experience millennia of Bulgarian history
The wooden windmill welcoming you onto the Old Nessebar peninsula gives a hint to the ancient treasure that lies ahead. An important trade hub for numerous civilizations over its 3000 year history, Old Nessebar is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and protected from modernisation. There are a number of small medieval churches to explore, along with a labyrinth of bazaar-like shops - fascinating pieces of architecture for culture vultures and history buffs alike.
Top Tip:
Remember to take enough money for the churches and the Archaeological Museum, as they require a small donation to enter.
We Recommend
Khan’s Tent
For an entertaining night out, a trip to Khan’s Tent is a must. Situated high on the hillside, with wonderful panoramic views of Sunny Beach bay, you will be served a delicious four course Bulgarian meal, with wine, beer or soft drinks. During your meal, you will be serenaded by the house band and afterwards, a highly talented variety show will commence with wondrous acts ranging from jugglers to acrobats to dancers.
Beach Club Playa
Have a cocktail whilst feeling the warm sand beneath your toes and relaxing in a hammock supported by tall leafy palm trees. The Latino dance beats played will certainly make you feel as though you’re on a tropical island. If paradise could be a beach bar in Sunny Beach, this would be it!
Action Aqua Park
The best way to cool down (and still have fun) is at the Action Aqua Park. Featuring white-knuckle kamikaze slides, a world-first uphill water coaster and a fun adventure pool for the kids, not to mention the wave and musical pools amongst others, it’s sure to appeal to all ages. Free shuttle transfers to the park operate regularly from Flower Street.

Lively and fun, loads for everyone
Jeremy Skill, Kendal
Great selection of restaurants, bars and nightlife. Lovely sandy beach and warm sea. Its so cheap that we went out to eat a few times even though we went All Inclusive as a pint of beer was 1 Lev which worked out at about 40p a pint beat that Wetherspoons. Seems to have a bit of everything for everyone. Little trains run round the resort as do the 2 horse carriages which are taxis and the electric segabikes. Loved the resort at night especially the beachbars although they are slightly more expensive than the main area bars. We travelled with two teen boys and they enjoyed it as much as we did. Also visit Nessebar its got loads of olde worlde charm.

Sunny beach is a beautiful resort close to shops and beach. There are bars and restaurants just a few steps away from the hotel. If going definitely go to khans tent it was an amazing place in the mountains and the entertainment is brilliant. We also went to varna which I would not recommend.

Sunny Beach is a good Resort
john claffey, Dublin
Food and drink is cheap plenty of music / Karaoke Bars the usual Package deal stuff.. I would describe it as a Ryanair type Spain cheap with no frills. ....BEWARE of the Hookers at night working in pairs they are will try to pickpocket you and their very proficient at it.. just tell them LOUDLY to f**k off your not interested before they start trying to feel your Genitalia while trying to Dip you. Some Hookers travel in Taxis and pull up beside you to offer their services.. I suspect the driver is their Pimp. Just be streetwise and you will have no worries.

Rained every day.
Jackie Silburn, Carnoustie
I have been to sunny beach before and loved it, however this time it rained every day so we were very disappointed. It`s great for shopping and night time entertainment and everything is very cheap but I think it is turning into an 18-30 type resort as there were loads of young people walking round the resort with open bottles of wine which they were consuming on the go. I would say that for the best weather you would need to go July or August.

Massive sunny resort
Jason, Wexford
Sunny Beach is a great place to go, It is hot and there is loads to do, there are hundreds of bars and restaurants, and best of all it is reeeeeallllly cheap. A pint is roughly £1-1.30. dinner for two (sit down meal) would be around £10-12. great shopping and quiet spots too if you just want to relax, stay in the south end or the very north if you want a quiter holiday.

Charming people, interesting language, beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea, but so many high rise buildings and hotels dripping on to the beach. Hire a car and travel out into the country to experience Bulgaria's true culture.
