Amadores Holidays & Hotels

The hillside town of Amadores is a relatively new addition to the iconic, Canary Islands holiday spots -

perched perfectly on Gran Canaria’s stunning Atlantic coast. With an incredibly remote and relaxed feel, it’s the perfect location for a laidback getaway.

If you’re looking for a holiday where you can plant your parasol on the Blue Flag beach and soak up the rays, this is the place for you.

Hotels in Amadores

Although Amadores is a small resort, you will find plenty of great hotels that are designed to suit everyone’s needs; whether you’re holidaying as a family, as a group of friends or as a couple. From self-catering apartments and luxury resorts to boutique hotels and home-stays, there is definitely something for everyone. Additionally, there are many brilliant, cheap hotels to cater for all budgets.

Where to stay

Amadores Beach

Although Amadores is naturally a tranquil area, there are lots of options for your holiday as you get closer to Amadores Beach. Sheltered by two dykes, the water is always crystal clear and calm – you could float for hour in the sea, catching those all-important rays. As the main hub for the town, this is where you will also find all of the resort’s bars and restaurants. For those that are self-catering, the area also has several supermarkets for you to stock up on snacks and meals for your stay.

Amadores Golf Clubs

If you would prefer to stay an even quieter part of the serene Amadores, there are a number of golf clubs located just behind the famous hillside. Nestled between two of the island’s most popular golf clubs are a number of different hotels and apartments, all of which has easy access to the rest of the island.

What to see

If you are looking for a beach that is both secluded and tranquil, Amadores beach will be your haven during your trip. With a ban on loud music, ball games and water sports, your time at the beach will be all about me, myself and I. Take the time to relax with a good book or enjoy the sun as it sets over Mount Tiede, visible on the neighbouring island of Tenerife. If you do want to get out on the water and take some stunning holiday pictures, pedalos are available for hire.

As you start to walk down towards the neighbouring town of Puerto Rico, you will come across the Amadores Beach Bar. With a classy look and cosy Balinese beds to soak up the sun, you could easily spend the day relaxing here. Whilst bed cost 20 euros to rent, it’s definitely worth it for the day-long table service. With cocktails, wines and snacks available to order, you can while away the hours in absolute heaven. During the evening, the chill-out vibe continues into the evening, with DJs, live music and dancers.

For a magical Amadores experience, you can book yourself onto one of the very popular boat trips out to see dolphins. As the area is so peaceful, there’s always a high chance you’ll see a variety of dolphins, included the common bottlenose right through to the Atlantic striped. If you’re lucky, you may spot a whale or two in the distance. Whilst you may need to travel to Puerto Rico’s harbour to set sail, the distance from Amadores is just minutes away.

Nightlife

Due to its quaint and relaxing atmosphere, you won’t find many ‘open-all-night’ bars in Amadores. However, the selection of bars and restaurants available are the perfect place to enjoy a crisp glass of wine and the scenic views. For those looking to spend the night celebrating, many holidaymakers travel to Puerto Rico for incredibly lively nightlife. Just a ten-minute journey away, taxis are affordable and operate at all hours of the day.

What to eat

The local cuisine is a heady mix of traditional Spanish fare, with African and Latin American influences. The base for many dishes includes a variety of exotic vegetables and fruit, as well as tasty, local fish. Your taste buds will certainly not be disappointed during your holiday.

The stunning Amadores beach is backed by a number of different bars and restaurants, serving everything from tasty snacks to full course meals. There are also incredible al fresco opportunities for those who want to enjoy the weather and views whilst they enjoy their local delicacies.

Shopping

Amadores boasts two, small shopping centres - the Playa Amadores Shopping Centre and the Amadores Shopping Centre – where you can pick up a variety of local souvenirs for friends and family back home. However, you may also find a trip to Puerto Rico is much more successful for designer buys.

For a unique experience, head over to Puerto de Mogan. Although it only runs on a Friday, this incredibly market is located just 20 minutes away from Amadores. Hundreds of independent stalls line the two, large plazas at the marina, giving you the opportunity to pick up everything from leather goods to English paperbacks with your holiday spends.

BUILT FOR TOURISM - BUT GOOD

BEST POINTS- PLAYA AMADORES IS A VERY NICELY LAID OUT RESORT WITH A SUPERB MAN-MADE BEACH. IT'S PURPOSE BUILT FOR TOURISTS WITH A HOST OF RESTAURANTS, SNACK BARS AND SHOPS FACING THE BEACH. IT'S HARD TO GET A BAD MEAL AT ANY OF THE RESTAURANTS, THEY HAVE TO BE GOOD TO COMPETE. WE HAVE BEEN GOING TO THEM FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS OR SO AND HAVE TRIED QUITE A FEW OF THEM. LESS GOOD- NOT THE PLACE TO STAY IF YOU ARE SEEKING AUTHENTIC CANARIAN/SPANISH CULTURE.

Quiet

Compared to Puerto Rico very much calmer and quieter, if nightlife is what you want then get a cab into Puerto Rico for just a few Euros. Restaurants and bars at the beach are adequate but not outstanding the beach itself is great.
