Fantastic City

I would HIGHLY recommend this City. It is fabulous and a must see.The views, the city walls, cable car, museums, swimming, food all fantastic. It was our first time but definitely won't be our last. The local bus service was brilliant. The airport coach Atlas takes you from airport into Old Town for 5 euro Approx 30 mins. On our return to airport there was no coach going to airport anywhere near the time of our flight (which was 12.45pm). The only coaches going that day were 5.10am and 2.40pm. which was a bit of a let down. Taxi cost us 210 kuna (approx 30 euro) which wasn't too bad. Beaches are mostly stony. I would go between March and September when going again as it was the end of season it was very quiet at night and got quite cool.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The sightseeing, Old Town, views, sea.

Dubrovnik - what a transformation!

It was hard to believe that only 20 years ago Dubrovnik was a city under siege - and amazing to see how they had restored it to its former self. The shops, bars and restaurants (which are plentiful) are all relaxed and easy going with great service with a smile, and a story if you ask too!

The best thing about my stay was ...

Dubrovnik-a place of History,Good food.

Check for position as Dubrovnik and surrounding areas can be steep with many steps. Beware of eating near the Castle as the prices reflect the large influx of American/Japanese on the cruise ships.Trips boat/bus will cost you 350Kn / person which can run away with your budget.Buy your bus tickets at the Hotel which for 2 people will save 8 Kn for a return trip.To return to the problem of steps . This could prove a problem to a person with mobility problems.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The Castle with it"s many shops, small streets views, food, designer boutiques.

My favourite european city

Went at end october still busy but the most beautiful walled city I have seen. Been many times and still find something new. Difficult for people who don't walk well as there are many steps. I am content to see the world go by from a bar now as I am a wheelchaie user, but still get round quite a bit on the main street and shops and market areas. In July and August there is a wonderful festival with all kinds of entertainment indoors and out - concerts, ballet, choirs, orchestras - very enjoyable

The best thing about my stay was ...

The beautiful buildings, churches and palaces

better than the pictures

Dubrovnik old town is one of the few places that lives up to or exceeds expectations , it is better than the pictures. it gets busy with tourists and buses to the city gate get very crowded at peak times. walking the walls would not be advisable during heat of day in summer , evenings a better option when it is cooler. there are numerous bars and restaurants in the old town with excellent fresh fish dishes etc. sea

The best thing about my stay was ...

sights of the old town

Lovely coastal city with historic old town

We spent 2 weeks in Dubrovnik & found plenty to do both in the town & surrounding area.Allow plenty of time to explore the Old Town, a walk around the town walls & a trip on the cable car to Mt Srd are a must do.A visit to Lokrum to explore the island & swim is only a 10 mins boat trip from the old port.Other places of interest include the monastery & museum.Dubrovnik is ideally situated for trips to the Elephite Islands and also has good local bus links to Cavtat & Trsteno( the world famous arboretum)There are plenty of bars & restaurants serving reasonably priced food & drink especially away from the main tourist area. For those looking for more typical Croatian fare you need to visit villages away from Dubrovnik. For music lovers a good time to visit is during July/August for thr summer festival.

The best thing about my stay was ...

A wealth of historic sites & friendly people.

Dubrovnik - great place to visit

Following the Serbs damaging most of the city in 1991-1995, it has now been restored (including cable car to mountain 3 years ago) and great to see. We walked around city walls (70 euros - one way route to avoid blockages - 90 mins up and down steps along way, some steep) and great to walk around back streets, see harbour etc. Loads of places to eat (great for fish - great places on and off main street). Very friendly; very safe during day and evenings - friendly people and although a cruise ship can significantly increase the number of visitors, plenty of space and historic places to go (churches, exhibitions - including 91-95 war). Take kunas rather than euros as although euros accepted in most places, I think you lose out on rounding and the odd place won't take. I think you need 2-3 days to fully explore and appreciate but a day might do it. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit of 3 days.

Excellent. Would recommend to anyone they should visit

Dubrovnik is a beautiful country, with a fabulous city, spectacular scenery, wondeful scenery and excellent sea jouneys. Very good bus services and plenty of tours to extend your knowledge of the country. In the city there is plenty of good eating places, immaculately clean street and lovely shops. All the coffee bars are great and the staff very pleasant.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The history, the diversity of city and countryside and the ease of travel.

beautiful, friendly and not too big.

lovely city with enough to do - the sea, festivals, music, history, walking the wall, cable car, shops etc, along with excursions eg. the three island tour on a galleon (loved it) Plenty of good bars and restaurants, both touristy and local. Scenery and architecture is worth a look except for the cinema complex which could best be described as " soulless".

The best thing about my stay was ...

walled city
