Located within eyeshot of the snow capped Alps, Munich is a sophisticated and elegant city, a thriving media and high-tech metropolis, but with a small-town flair and endearing rustic charm. Munich is not only well known for the largest festival in the world- Oktoberfest, but as Germany’s number one place for art, with exhibits such as the Alte Pinakothek and Neue Pinakothek. The city also boasts numerous churches, the distinctive twin-towered Frauenkirche, and the futuristically designed football stadium, Allianz-Arena. You will always find something to do in this multi-faceted city, whether it be satisfying a keen interest in history, architecture or art; strolling through parks or taking a trip to the Bavaria film studios.

great city and fantastic Beer Kellers

Munich is wonderful with plenty of shopping and excellent beer kellers. The beer is second to none and although basic in the beer kellers the food is very enjoyable.

Munich on a budget

We took a easy jet flight from Manchester and stayed in a very good hotel at less than a UK hotel at this standard. There is plenty to see for every taste and interest. A good tip when you fly back from Terminal 1 is go to the only airport brewery and restaurant in the world The Airbrau. Good beerand food at great prices.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The cleanliness and the people

Munchen - the city - WOW WOW

after visiting the Christmas market the staff recommended trying the summer and we are so glad they did. it felt like a different place. the city shops are so good with all brand names, so many outside places to eat and drink and the surrounding places really worth a visit. Olympic park this is really good value and short train away and was so impressive but felt slightly eerie as you can imagine how it was in 1972. Schwabing was a lovely bustling little city and only ten minutes to Englisher Garten - that is a must you really feel like in the middle of no where and the beer tent was great too. Oftbanhaus was a lovely little suburb with a market on a saturday again a few stops on the train. the hofbrauhaus is legenary and so lively and some of the best food we have had in muncih along with a helles beer (1 litre for around 7 euros). hard rock cafe is lively and when the bands play the atmosphere is electric. lots of other places and as for the pastries and cakes - druckers eat your heart out!

The best thing about my stay was ...

the place, people, everything - great city

Plenty of sights and good, but expensive shopping

Easy to get to this city and transport within city is brilliant and cheap. I went in December and it was cold and snowy, so visiting many sites was not on. Xmas markets were in full swing and pack the city centre. Beer halls ok for cheap food, but some nice restaurants, where the wine prices are exhorbitant. Worth a day trip to Salzburg(train two hrs). Better to visit in the summer
