The charming city of Florence lies in the Tuscany region of Italy and is also known as Firenze in Italian. 13 October 2010

Promised ourselves that one day we would visit Florence - we were not disappointed!

We were centrally located near the main railway station and all attractions were walkable. Florence clean and relatively litter free. Not overrun with cars and easy to get about. Got around galleries, cathedral, churches and parks in 3 days with one day left over to visit Bologna by train - also very worthwhile visiting. Went to main galleries early in the morning to minimise queing. Weather in early October was just as we like it, about 20C dry and sunny.

The best thing about my stay was ...

A great setting for magnificent art works.

A must visit place

What can I say? Third time back and still plenty to see and enjoy. The city is crammed full of things for every taste. NB Pre book the Uffitzi, its worth that little extra. Check out prices before buying things like ice creams, got stung 7.5 Euro's for 1 in a place just over the ponte vecchio bridge on the way to the petti palace (to the left slightly).

Historic City to visit

Florence is easy to get around by foot. All major cultural/historic sites are within 10 to 15 minutes walk of Santa Maria Novello Basillica / Train Station. Due to cobbles on most roads though, I think that wheel chair users would sadly find access about the city quite hard. If you have a few days to spend in Florence I would recommend visiting The Academia, The Duomo (free to access by queuing), The Medici Chappell, The Basilica of St. Lorenzo, the Centrale Marcato and the Basilica of Santa Croce. Don't be tempted to buy a ticket though for Giotto's bell tower, Duomo Cuppula, Crypt, Baptistry and Museum though, without checking the times available for your visits!! The central train station is within easy walking distance too, so you could also, for a few euros, take a train to Pisa, Lucca or Sienna.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Academia Museum

Beautiful Florence

Florence is a wonderful city, full of incredible architecture and stylish Italians. It is easy to walk around, a great place to really soak up the Italian culture and atmosphere. It is potentially a very romantic city, so next time I visit hopefully it will be with someone romantic who shares my aspirations! We found a couple of great indoor markets where highly quality local produce is sold, and ate delicious food there. We also ventured to the best and oldest ice cream parlour a couple of times, which I would highly recommend.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The food, culture, architecture, everything.

Beautiful City with loads of museums

We were a bit museum fatigued after Paris and Rome and to be honest if you didn't do galleries and museums I think you would run out of stuff to do in Florence itself pretty quick. Some nice day trips out of here though, a million college students from the USA (no exaggeration, well not much) certainly gave it a different feel again,

The best thing about my stay was ...

Florence Italy

Lots to see and do. Very busy. Good restaurants and bars and reasonably priced away from the main attractions. Shopping a delight for the lady in your life. Nice and sunny, make sure you see Michael Angelo's "David". Buy the Firenze 72 hour ticket

The best thing about my stay was ...

Food and drink and museums

25 September 2010

Great city with wonderful buildings, art etc. Even September was exceptionally busy with tourists.

Tour parties monopolised the churches etc. had to time own sightseeing to avoid them! Numerous trattoria for inexpensive eating.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Ambience away from main tourist areas.

6/10 Good

Italian city

Less crowded in winter so less time spent in queues to get into main attractions but still many long waits. You need to pay to enter most places so look into a combined ticket and prebooking if you only have a weekend and want to "see it all". Go slighly off the main areas to find lovely restauraunts tucked away in back streets. Central train station and all the ameneties of any european city.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The first sighting of the Duormo

Hot and crowded

Florence is a beautiful city but not one to visit in July , instead would recommend catching the train to Lucca which is much quieter and not as crowded
