Fuengirola has a Phoenician origin and was rekindled by the Roman and Arab civilizations. The Medieval Moorish Fortress along the 8 km long coastline; the Sohail Castle down south; and Torreblanca to the east, all speaks about the influencers of the land. The area has a subtropical Mediterranean climate with an average temperature of 20-degree C all year round and is the best place to spend some quality time with yourself or your loved ones.

Visit the Sohail Castle, the majestic tower that lies isolated on a small hill at the mouth of Fuengirola River. The granite walls narrate the glory of its history and is the centre of several cultural festivals, such as the Festival of the City of Fuengirola, the Medieval Market and the Beer Festival.
If nature fascinates you, Fuengirola’s nature park is the best place to enjoy preserve exotic wildlife, several indigenous species from Asia, Africa, and the Island of Indo-Pacific. You can’t miss Fuengirola’s most famous archeological site, Parque Yacimiento Romano in Torreblanca which dates back to the 5th Century AD. Adrenaline junkies can engage in thrilling watersports at the beaches.

Nightlife in Fuengirola

When the sun goes down there’s so much to do, with parties aplenty. Summers are generally the peak time; party hard, don’t worry about the time. Most of the action happens at the beach, opposite the port; an ideal place to rave and party. For a quieter evening, start with the area around the Plaza de la Constitution— less holidaymakers, varied music, you will enjoy the night and get what you seek. The all-inclusive hotels in Fuengirola also take care of your evening entertainment as well and organize shows, parties and live music in peak seasons. As most of the Fuengirola hotels have a bar onsite, you can also enjoy your evening cocktail without going far.

What to eat in Fuengirola

When in Fuengirola, eat what the locals do! Though there are numerous options, some of the best restaurants and pubs lie along the coastline and serves authentic cuisines from the west to the far east. For a low cost holiday in Fuengirola, we recommend the restaurants in and around the city centre. For the best Spanish Tapas dishes, try Tipi Tapa, the food is high-quality and reasonably priced. The place even hosts Flamenco nights several times a week. You can also dine at the onsite restaurants if you have booked one of the hotels in Fuengirola.

Bodega Charolais is a terrace restaurant with an extensive wine menu and serves high-quality food with the freshest ingredients. For a more budget-eating, try La Solana restaurant, it serves the authentic Spanish cuisine with a wide variety of meat and seafood. If you fancy Japanese fare, Makati serves equally appetizing soups, sushi and tempuras. The restaurant specializes in teriyaki and seafood dishes.

Shopping in Fuengirola

Fuengirola is all about resorts, however, there are few places along Costa del Sol where you will find a more extensive flea market. The city’s fairground hosts two weekly markets – one on Tuesdays and the other on Saturdays, which sells everything ranging from spices to antiques; from vegetables to bags and draws both local and foreign crowds alike.

For the high-street, fashion lovers, we recommend the main square mall, where you can find several International labels such as Zara, Benetton, Pull & Bear and much more. The Miramar Shopping unit is another leisure centre you shouldn’t miss, on your Fuengirola Holiday, the complex has everything you need under one roof along with an entertainment centre.

If you plan your holiday in April, we recommend you to visit The International Fair of the Peoples of Fuengirola. The stalls feature ethnic merchandises from up to 50 different countries. The colourful Medieval market of Fuengirola is a must visit.

A bit Quiet for a winter holiday

We found Fuengirola a bit quiet for a winter holiday, but the weather was great, warm and sunny in the day time but cold at night. Fuengirola is a great place to go for a beach holiday, you can also use Fuengirola as a base for sightseeing, you can catch the train to Malaga or Torremolinos. you are not far from Mijas a spanish village in-land. Fuengirola also has a castle and a zoo. Lots or tapas bars and shops.

The best thing about my stay was ...

It is still spanish.

A vibrant town

The central and west areas of Fuengirola are very busy, so if you prefer something a little quieter go for the Torreblanca area to the east. Try to visit Mijas, a pretty town in the hills (bus from the central bus station). The caves at Nerja are will worth the effort to get there, remembering that they close during lunch hour. Granada and Cordoba should also not be missed! If anyone stops you in the street, asking if you speak English, please be careful that they are not going to try to con you out of your hard earned cash. Do not fall for the trick"my car has been towed away because I parked two wheels on a disabled space, and I need money to get me to the police station and the car pound"

The best thing about my stay was ...

The sea front, climate, good base for touring the region.

A town for all seasons

Fuengirola has something for everyone. Whether you want long sandy beaches, a lively nightlife, or just a quiet relaxing break in the sun. It is a town where you can do as much or as little as you choose, from shopping in the many fine shops or markets, to lazing on a sun drenched beach, enjoying a quiet drink in one of the many bar/cafes, to a full on night on the town. Or visit the zoo, the biopark, or the water park, catch a local bus for pennies and explore nearby towns and villages. Something for all.

I love Fuengirola

Fuengirola is a place where I have lived and visited numerous times. It is stretched out along the coast from the Sohail Castle to Torrequebrada with the Paseo Maritimo (a wide promenade) linking the two. There are literally hundreds of shoe and leather bag shops, lots of supermarkets, the lovely church square, and all within easy walking distance with plenty of cafes to provide rest stops and a very cheap local bus service. The centrally located Train station has a service that is cheap but connects to every place between Fuengirola and Malaga with a train every 30 minutes. The only bad thing? - timeshare touts!!

The best thing about my stay was ...

The friendly multinational atmosphere.
