nerja

Lovely quaint Spanish town which comes alive in the evenings. Summer is heaving and lots of resturants and bars are open, winter, not so many but still a good choice. Beaches are lovely and safe, they used to have lovely pebble beach, but this has changed and now more like grit which is quite dirty, but sea is so clear and clean.

Beautiful traditional spanish resort

If you want a taste of rustic Spain this is for you. Don't expect Macdonalds or lots of British bars. One tip we did receive from a couple who live in Nerja is if you order a drink at a bar which offers tapas - you get one free with each drink. Not all bars advertise this but the locals know this fact. The village of Frigillian is worth a visit - try the wine 1euro a glass.

Gorgeous! A little jewel

Nerja has something for everybody, there are miles of beaches divided up into several little coves (though the sand is quite rough, and the sea shelves quite steeply with pebbles underfoot, so jelly shoes would be a definite plus!) It's a beautiful, picturesque spot, the sea views are amazing. The "hub" of the town is the Balcon de Europa, a central plaza with portrait painters and sometimes concerts and markets, etc., and this is the best place to admire the view or just sit and people-watch. There are scores of restaurants, bars and shops within easy walking distance of the Balcon catering for all tastes, and the town has a friendly and relaxed feeling about it - helped by the fact that most of the central area is pedestrianised, and not having to dodge motor vehicles is a definite plus, though the bus station is only a short walk away and the buses go to most places of interest for something like one euro per trip - we recommend the caves of Nerja, about 4km out of town, spectacular!

The best thing about my stay was ...

The variety of things to see and do, the view, the mix of nationalities

A lovely place for a relaxing holiday.

Nerja is rightly named 'the jewel of the Costa del Sol'. It's a place where many Spanish people choose to holiday, which I think is a recommendation in itself. It's relatively unspoilt, and has many beaches. There's lots of choice when it comes to eating and drinking. I've been to Nerja 15 times now; the first time I went I fell in love with the place.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The fact that it's hardly changed in the time I've visited it.
