The city of Valencia lies on the west coast of Spain and forms part of the Costa del Azahar. Valencia is Spain’s the third largest city and is more famously known as the place where the Spanish dish paella originated. Formerly an industrial city, Valencia has seen dramatic development and is now a vibrant city with plenty to see and do. The historic old town is well worth a visit, wander around medieval landmarks such as the old towers of Serrano Towers and Quart Towers and the impressive San Miguel de los Reyes monastery. A visit to Valencia in March is well worth a trip for those interested in festivals, as the city holds the well known Las Fallas festival where each neighbourhood within Valencia makes a puppet known as a Falla which is then burnt as a traditional part of the festival. For those seeking a little relaxation then head to the city’s Malvarrosa fine sandy beach which stretches along the Mediterranean coast for approximately four kilometres. For the ideal family day out, take a trip to the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias complex and visit the Oceanografic, Europe’s largest aquarium which features a polar zone, a dolphinarium and a Red Sea aquarium. Valencia is fast becoming a popular city break for all types of travellers due to it’s variety of tourist attractions and perfect climate with warm summers and mild winters, the city has something to offer for everyone.

Valencia is an amazing City

Valencia is a beautiful city with amazing architecture, both ancient and modern. The City of the Arts and Science is a wonderful complex, with an i-max cinema, science museum, aquarium, opera house, gardens, etc. It is easy to spend an entire day there. We stayed for 3 days in Valencia but there was not enough time to do everything we would have liked. There are so many beautiful buildings. The ceramic museum is a must - just to see the facade alone is worth the visit. I will definitely return to Valencia. It is also a very safe city

The best thing about my stay was ...

Their wonderful buildings

Valencia

Great city for a short break. Most sights are within walking distance and easily manageable. Tourist bus was good as there are 2 routes which you can interchange and one goes to the Port/Beach area whilst the other goes round the historic part. This one is not that interesting as once you get to the edges of town it's a bit bleak. It does however take you to the zoo if interested. There is a huge modern City of Arts and Sciences centre complete with Oceanographic centre with underwater walkways etc. Great for kids particularly if weather not great. Highly recommend the beach. It's huge in length and depth and is very clean and sandy even at the water's edge - sand all the way in. Restaurants along the beach all looked good, we had a very good Paella Valenciana at Saumarch but if going for lunch on Sunday book in advance! There are also great Tapas bars in Plaza de la Reina and in the streets nearby.

The best thing about my stay was ...

Lots to do and eat!

Good for few days in the autumn and winter. Have to be able to walk.

The Turia gardens must be unique, diverting the main river and using the bed as a garden through the city. The centre is not too big and you can walk round it in half a day. I was surprised that I enjoyed the Turia gardens, Botanical gardens, and Royal gardens the most. And the wonderful beach. We picked a hotel half way between the beach and centre, but that still means lots of walking is involved, about 10 miles a day for us. Climbing the Torres de Quart is free and gives a great view over the centre. Beware if you try and walk the formula 1 course, that you cannot cross the harbour, which has a retracted swing bridge. Its a long detour back, but hey, you get to see the marina with its smaller yachts.

The best thing about my stay was ...

The gardens, Turia, Botanical and Royal, and the beach.

Some very nice spots

Valencia has more to offer than you would expect. Nice for shopping but the dried-out river which is now a park is very impressive to see and houses the coolest buildings in the world. There are alot of facilities for going out altough after a while you will get bored of the poor people begging for your money and trying to sell you drugs or funny hats. Altough a very nice city, after a day or four you have seen enough of it. A shame also that the beach is just a beach, with almost nog facilities or nice buildings, just sand and water

The best thing about my stay was ...

Some very beautiful spots you really must see

Stunning by the oceanografic/science museum.

We visited valencia for a weekend to visit oceanografic and had a wonderful time, if you go with children make sure you go to the adjacent park and experience the Gulliver slide creation - great fun and a lovely park too.

Varied experiences

Valencia is three destinations in one. First there is the old town area with imposing buildings and facinating back streets. Then there is the ultra-modern part with the City of Arts and Sciences a 'must see', and finally there is a fantastic, uncrowded and clean beach on which to soak up the sun.
