Taba

Taba

Taba is on the Sinai Peninsula, close to the border crossing with Israel. The town is really a collection of hotels and a significant casino. Situated on the tip of the Gulf of Aqaba, this town is a popular weekend break for tourists from across the border. The upgrading of the local airport to international status has made this part of the Sinai Peninsula more accessible to European holidaymakers.

20 kilometres down the coast is the more significant Taba Heights development which is a little oasis in an otherwise arid desert. You can expect to find large resort hotels alongside an unlikely golf course carved out of the sand and rock. Taba Heights is a popular destination for new and experienced divers.

Away from the beach - visits to Mount Sinai and Petra are a great way to see the amazing scenery and soak up the ancient history of the area.

6/10 Good

31 August 2010

relaxing and peaceful resort, not five star hotel.

the sea was wonderful and the snorkelling was amazing. Saw turtles and an abundance of incredible fish and corals. Sea access was limited due to sharp rocks and coral. The hotel itself was not 5 star but more like 3, the rooms were clean and spacious and the landscaped grounds are the best in Taba Heights. We went on a half board basis and found the food to be good on the whole. Lots of choice at the buffets and something for everyone, plenty of salads and local as well as international cuisine. The drinks were really expensive a glass of wine was eight english pounds and beer five pounds. water was two pounds a bottle.Happy hour does not include cocktails. The staff were a strange bunch of misfits and discontents, we were there during Ramadan so perhaps this was the reason for the mood swings and terrible service.they all seemed to cheer up when we were leaving or thought they would receive a tip. We requested a double bed but were given two singles which we had to push together. the weather was amazing in August but really hot when there was no breeze approx 40 degrees . The night life was non existent and only slightly better at the neighboring hotels. Overall good value for money but i wont be rushing back.

The best thing about my stay was...

snorkelling and the sea water lagoon and gardens
