Try to get a room at back of hotel overlooking pool as it can be noisy at night with revellers returning home loaded other than that great spot everything is on your doorstep including a McDonald’s for kids

The hotel apartment was clean and tidy as was the other facilities, but to our dismay there was a all night bar called Lizzies within the complex which was open until 6am ?. We could here the noise all night, we reported it to reception first thing in the morning who said they would look into it. As we passed it on our way out we noticed a board outside saying it was open all night all week. We have used this hotel many times and we feel we will have to look for another hotel on our next visit.
The best thing about my stay was...The SUN and our walks around the area and to Quarteria.

Wifi very poor in rooms kept clicking in and out. Would not be recommending for families.

Excellent all round

An excellent holiday. I arrived at Luna Olympus at about 11am, concerned that I may not be able to check in until 4pm. The man on reception was very friendly and helpful and checked with room service to see if a room was available for me. It was. Check in was quick and efficient. I was handed my room card, given breakfast times (8am to 10am) and directions to breakfast room, pool and lifts. I went up to my room. The halls were very dark but rooms well signposted and I found my room easily. Struggled with door key card, trying to find out where to insert it. Finally realised I had to hold it against the door handle. The same card is then inserted into a slot on the wall once inside the apartment to turn on all the electricity - a good way to ensure you don't forget your card and don't forget to turn off the lights. The apartment was huge. I booked a one bed apartment but some clerical error saw me allocated a two bed apartment with two bathrooms and a fantastic wrap around balcony with three different dining areas on it. I was on the 4th floor at the back of the building, overlooking the garden and pool (furthest room from it though) with sea views and also marina views from the side balcony. There were three sets of patio doors leading onto the balcony. Leaving these open tended to result in internal doors slamming loudly as gusts of wind blew through the apartment. I learnt to either shut all internal doors or shut all patio doors. Some of the electric sockets seemed a bit loose and dodgy, possibly from a series of holiday makers using various travel plugs and adaptors. The sockets on the balcony seemed particularly dubious. The balcony isn't totally private, being overlooked by other hotels and viewable by your neighbours. I was unable to lock one of my patio doors but didn't feel any threat of break-in and left my laptop unattended towards the end of my stay with no worries about theft. The room safe was large enough for money, passport, cameras, many electricals... but not a 15" laptop. Full kitchen facilities, although I had to move the toaster to find an electric socket as the only one convenient was used by the kettle. Good selection of crockery, cutlery and cooking pans and utensils. Everything was clean and easy to find. The pool was huge and I had the water to myself. There were a few people on sun loungers but I swam for over six hours without anyone else getting in to the pool. School holidays were over so there were no kids around, which was great. The pool was unheated but perfectly pleasant once in. The water was clean and only a few leaves and petals floating around, removed by gardening staff with a net at regular intervals. Loads of sun loungers around the edge, which people moved around the garden to find the best sun/shade spots and group with friends as appropriate. Breakfast was good. The waiting staff were on hand to check for guest cards (make sure you take your guest card to breakfast with you to avoid problems). They were friendly and helpful. There was a very good selection of hot and cold items. Six hot items (eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, beans and mushrooms), large selection of fruit juices, cereals, pastries, bread (toast your own in the grill), fresh fruit, yogurt, jams, butter, hot drinks (cappuccino was lovely, had to press for two cups worth to fill the one supplied). Plenty of tables to choose from, and you can eat indoors or take your food into the garden area. Warning, do not feed the seagulls! Another warning: do not leave your food unattended in the garden area or the seagulls will help themselves before you even return! The man behind me put his Full English on the table and went back in to get some brown sauce. A seagull instantly landed on his plate, feet in his fried eggs, and wolfed down his bacon, followed by the eggs, within about 5 seconds. I saw someone else chucking bread towards the seagulls, followed swiftly by a waitress running after the birds, clapping her hands. The seagulls are huge, fat and happy. :-) The location of the Luna Olympus is excellent. Very close to the Marina, the sea, the shops... McDonalds. It's not 'luxury' but it's certainly value for money. The beds, however, were exceptionally uncomfortable, sadly, and the TV was a bit fuzzy with a limited selection of channels. Wifi was easily available without password in the bedrooms and was provided for free. This was excellent. Thank you. Bathrooms had plenty of towels and toiletries (soap bar, shower gel, shampoo). The toilet roll was flimsy but spare rolls were available in the cupboards. The shower worked well and was easily adjustable but powerful and a good temperature. It had been left pointing at the floor and I had to twist it towards the wall to avoid flooding the place. The wardrobes contained plenty of spare bedding and pillows if needed. A safe was available, the key has to be obtained from reception at a cost of 2 Euros per day and a 10 Euro returnable deposit. There were three lifts in reception and these all worked, were clean, and big enough for six people or so. I didn't want a change of sheet or towels for a four day stay so left the 'do not disturb' sign on my door and was not disturbed by room service/cleaners for the duration of my stay, which suited me fine. I had to leave for the airport at 7:30am and check out via 24 hour reception was quick and easy. I got my 10 Euro safe deposit back and a friendly goodbye. Very straightforward. I had to leave a lot of unused food and drink in the fridge as I couldn't take it on the plane. I hope it went to a good home. Reading reviews of the hotel before going out there, I took ear plugs as people implied that it was very noisy. Maybe I was lucky, but it wasn't noisy at all, apart from the British Hen Party returning along the path under my room shouting 'Bubbles! Bubbles' and giggling stupidly for about five minutes. It's all pretty standard urban party town stuff. There was no blaring club music or major drunken issues. I had looked for a cheap, central hotel and am very happy to have chosen the Luna Olympus. Anyone who books here and complains that it is not luxury should open their wallets a little further and go elsewhere. I got exactly what I expected... more, if I'm honest. I couldn't have asked for better service from the staff there and the room provided everything I wanted, except a slightly more comfortable mattress. I slept better on the sofas, they were comfy! If/when I go back to Vilamoura, I will be happy to book here again and will recommend it to friends for all round value for money and service. Given 9 out of 10, would have been 10 with a comfy mattress. I'd recommend a walk around the Marina to the beach on the other side (Praia da Falesia) which is a beautiful place to watch sunset and then walk back through the Marina lit up at night. Each restaurant has staff positioned outside to try and drag customers in, which can get a bit annoying, but it's lively and atmospheric. I swam in the sea at sunset. The waves were warm and full of fish. Perfect. Thank you to Luna Olympus staff and Alpharooms for a hassle free holiday. Well done. :-)
The best thing about my stay was...Friendly staff in all areas, size of apartment, convenient location.
