Pyramid view room with balcony
Gillian , Merseyside
Good overnight stay across from the Giza Pyramids. Had to wait around 40 minutes at check in as man on reception had no record of my Alpharooms booking. First room was ok but on the small side (2010) and there were loads of sugar sachets but no teabags. This was resolved through reception but the other problem concerning the curtains which didn't close was remedied through a change of room to one also with a Pyramids view and also a balcony and 1.5 litre bottle of water. Bathroom was good with bath and shower and was very clean. Beds were comfortable too. Breakfast buffet was plentiful but the omelette chef didn't understand my request to use a clean spoon to add ingredients as the spoon he was using had a mixture of meat and other foods on it. As a vegetarian I do not want scraps of meat inside my omelette. He certainly took exception to my request when he finally worked it out. Hot chocolate from the machine was tasteless but everything else including crepes was delicious and plenty of choice for all tastes. Wifi is only free in reception area not beside the pool. Pool area is small with only a few loungers, many of which were already reserved but unoccupied til much later.
The best thing about my stay was...Comfortable bed and patient reception staff.

The hotel is in a great location just 15 mins walk from the pyramids but shame about the staff attitude and cleanliness. Was disgusted to discover nightwear under pillows (previous occupants ), hair on bedsheets and bathroom, and dirt in room/corridor carpets. The breakfast wasnt anything special and didnt taste fresh. 2* at best .Pay the bit extra for a better hotel.
The best thing about my stay was...location

Stayed at this hotel 20 Sept for 4nights badly needs upgrade. Booked half board @ due to buffet evening meal advertised- this is not what you get.If hotel is quiet which lets face it due to current climate in Egypt is high probability they change advertised evening meal to set menu & you get a choice if meat or fish dish for your main course with everything else set. The rooms are very dark & need more lighting however tv,tea making facilities & comfortable bed are a plus.Proximity to Pyramids is good. The staff are like all hotels with some better than others & you would think they could try that little harder to at least try to look happy or hotel will end up with no guests. Pool man is the only staff member who seems to want to look after staff. I will be going back to Cairo but not to this hotel needs major changes to meet standards of other hotels I have stayed at in Egypt. Happy staff go a long way to making happy guests.
The best thing about my stay was...Tv, tea making facs & comfortable beds

This is never a five star hotel. No welcome drink when you arrive. To get a room to the garden side (even that it was asked for at booking) was only possible after I complained. swimming pool is locate just beside the incredibly busy road. the hotel iand the enviroment is noisy. Just good for 1 or two nights to visit the pyramids. Not worth the money.

This is the worst 4-5 star hotel in which I have stayed. The airconditioning is totally inadequate both in the rooms and the public facilities. The restaurant was so warm diners were actually pouring sweat. The hotel has 280 rooms and only 25 lounge chairs at the pool. The Movenpick next door has 240 rooms and over 100 lounge chairs. At the pool people people had to sit on the the grass at the Sofitel because the lounge chairs filled up early. Staff is poorly trained. At the buffet the staff walked right in front of you to reload food without any regard for your body. I have been to over 95 countrues and travel several months a year so I think I am a good judge. Even the gift shop charged 2 1/2 times the cost of a postage stamp.

Very nice modern rooms and comfortable hotel with a great view of Pyramids. Well worth staying here for 2 nights as a base for the Pyramids. Hire a black and white taxi with a driver for a day for about 200 EGP to see all Pyramid sites. No need for tour guides, All Pyramids can easily be visited independently. Also Omar Sharif was a great welcoming face to the hotel and was very helpful and friendly.
