Budapest Holidays & Hotels
Hotels in Budapest
From popular cheaper chains to boutique hotels, your stay in Hungary’s capital of Budapest can be as luxurious or budget-friendly as you like. This artistic city has a range of accommodation options for solo travellers, friends, families and couples, making it a holiday destination to suit all.
Split in half by the winding River Danube, Budapest is a vibrant city that’s made up of stunning architecture, geothermal springs and unmissable view spots. Whether you visit for the Christmas markets or at the height of summer, Budapest a destination that will delight visitors of all ages and all tastes.
Where to stay
If you’re looking to be in the middle of all the sights during your holiday, District V is the place to be. As the tourist centre of Budapest, District V is home to several large hotels as well as dozens of delicious restaurants, bars and shops. You’ll have the iconic Hungarian Parliament building on your doorstep, as well as Liberty Square and endless museums. District V also has a buzzing nightlife, and handily leaves you just a short walk away from all the sights across the river and further out of the city.
District VII is well known for being the city’s lively and artistic hub. As Budapest’s Jewish Quarter, it’s also rich with history - you can’t miss the Dohány Street Synagogue, built in the mid-19th century and now officially Europe’s largest synagogue. Hotels in this district will leave you perfectly situated for exploring the thermal spas, museums and shopping centres - and you’ll also be slap bang in the middle of all the city’s ruin bars.
Located on the left hand side of the River Danube, a holiday in District I offers a quieter stay in Budapest. This is where you’ll find the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Castle District, which contains both the Buda Castle and the Fisherman’s Bastion. It’s also home to a number of lesser-known thermal baths including Rudas Baths and Gellert Thermal Bath just a short walk away from most hotels in the area.
What to see
Budapest is a city that’s rich with history and cultural hotspots, so you’ll never be short of things to see and do during your holiday. After a wander along the River to see the striking Hungarian Parliament building and the moving Shoes on the River Danube Bank memorial, you’ll be in the heart of the city. Take a tour of the Hungarian State Opera, and soak up the free views of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge, one of the most famous sights in Budapest.
Whatever the weather, no trip to Budapest is complete a trip to one of the many thermal baths. Széchenyi Thermal Bath to the north of the city centre is the most well-known. It’s home to 21 indoor and outdoor pools ranging in temperatures from 18°C to 40°C, with room to take in a few laps or just to simply enjoy a soak. Fisherman's Bastion, over the other side of the River, is another unmissable spot. The panoramic viewing terrace has fairy tale turrets and archways, and offers the best views across Budapest.
Budapest has a lot to offer in the way of lively nightlife; millions flock to the city every year for a holiday to enjoy the inexpensive, eclectic after-dark entertainment. The ruin bars, so called for their locations in dilapidated buildings, are dotted around the city and are a must visit. Szimpla Kert is one of the most famous ruin bars, featuring a warren of little rooms filled with mismatched furniture, live music and eclectic art. There’s also plenty of other nightlife to keep you busy, too, from casinos to bars, nightclubs and even parties in the thermal spas!
What to eat
From hearty meals to sweet treats, Budapest has its fair share of delicious food for you to sink your teeth into. As the national dish of Hungary, goulash is probably one of the most popular meals around. It’s usually made with beef and vegetables, and is seasoned with a touch of paprika for a warming kick. For dessert, try a dobos torte - a delicious sponge cake layered with chocolate buttercream and topped with caramel. Or, treat yourself to a Kürtoskalács, a hollow cake that resembles a chimney, and which can be personalised with everything from cinnamon to Nutella – you are on holiday after all!
The vibrant Váci street is one of the most well-known shopping areas in Budapest, and features everything from souvenir shops to high street stores and local crafts. The stylish WestEnd City Center is another of Budapest’s shopping havens. It’s got floors of international and local shops, as well as plenty of food stalls to keep your energy levels up.

A superb 4star city centre hotel close to all transport and the Danube
G.D.HALLIGAN, Near Liverpool
WE EXPERINCWED FIRST RATE, FRIENDLY SERVICE AT THE NH. OUR ROOM WAS SPOTLESSLY CLEAN, VERY COMFORTABLE AND SITUATED TO THE REAR OF THE HOTEL WHERE IT WAS VERY QUIET THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT. THE SUMPTUOUS BREAKFAST (INCLUDED IN OUR DEAL) WAS EXTENSIVE AND SET OUT BUFFET STYLE WITH MASSIVE CHOICES INCLUDING HOT DISHES TOO. MAJOR TRAM, BUS, TROLLEY, METRO AND A MAINLINE STATION ARE ALL JUST A SHORT WALK AWAY. THE CENTRAL PLACES OF INTEREST AND THE DANUBE ARE ALL EASILY ACCESSIBLE FROM THE NH. WE HAVE STAYED AT THE NH MANY TI MES (AND TAKEN FRIENDS) AND NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED.
The best thing about my stay was...COMORTABLE ROOM AND BEDS FOLLOWED BY A FANTASTIC BREAKFAST

Great saty at Nh Budapest
Linda McGregor, london
Just returned from a short trip to Budapest staying at the NH hotel, if travelling from the sirport only a short walk from the main train station and a return ticket can be purchased at the airport 790 florint return you can also buy your tram tickets at tthe airport and they are very useful for jumping aroung Budapest. The hotel was very welcoming and the room was clean and warm with tea and coffee making facilities along with a mini bar and room service. We had a breakfast included rate and the breakfast had a good spread of breads /eggs/cereals/cheese meat fruit yogue=rt etc so something for everyone. The hotel keep our bags after check out and were very helpful. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break in Budapest I couldn.t fault it.I have stayed in afew HN hotels and in general have found them to be of a good standard with great beds anf good service.

Perfect for a one-night stay
Check-in was fast and they offered a choice of smoking or non-smoking rooms. My smoking room was fresh and did not smell of tobacco at all. The room was a double with a medium sized TV, a good-size bathroom and a window facing the hotel atrium/lobby. The aircon didn't work very well even though I had it on full blast. They offer room service until 9.30pm and the prices are not higher than in central restaurants (3-5,000 for a main). They also offer pay movies, but the film I was interested in watching was only offered in German, which was a shame. There were plenty of German TV channels, but as usual the UK station that used to be called BBC Prime was missing from the TV channel list. I never understand why that is!! I found the room peaceful and quiet, the bed was comfortable and the wifi worked well once I had moved the laptop about a bit. The wifi password was given on a slip of paper at check-in. Breakfast was pretty much as expected from a 4* hotel, but I missed a larger choice of soft white bread. The hotel has a restaurant, bar, sauna and fitness room, but I did not use any of these. The staff were friendly. All in all I was happy with my stay and would use this hotel again for one-night stays. However, it's not special enough to warrant longer stays, as there are plenty of really interesting and fascinating hotels in Budapest for that. If staying at the NH you might want to consider popping across the road to one of my favourite cafes, Europa. They serve cakes as well as omelettes at reasonably low prices (2,000 for an omelette, cake and 2 diet cokes). This hotel is particularly well placed for tram 2, going to Buda and also for catching the train to the airport (365 single).
The best thing about my stay was...The proximity to the Nyugati train station

Hotel was fantastic value for money, rooms very clean and modern. Staff helpful. Breakfast good more choice than we expected. Spa facilities appear to be closed for refurb - this was not apparent on the web site - this is the only reason not rated 5/5!

Not in the town centre, but I thought it was a good location and everywhere in walking distance, although coming back from city centre of an evening we did get taxi's - taxi fare does vary!

Modern quality hotel in Central Budapest. Rooms and service excellent. Good buffet breakfast. Very good B&B rate from Alpha.

On the edge of tourist Budapest close to station. As with many europen cities area round station not so nice as around the main tourist sights but modern City West Shopping Centre with great range of shops compensates for this. Shops and services in this area more used by locals the advantage of this being that restaurants, shops etc are cheaper but still good or reasonable quality. Try Europa Cafe close by for first class coffee, cakes, ice cream and snacks; traditional but quality surroundings with good service and prices much cheaper than more famous cafes in tourist areas.

A good choice of quality hotel if you are happy to be on the fringe of tourist Budapest.

This was booked by my daughters boyfriend, who I thought by the price was cutting corners. But on arrival to the hotel we were treated extremley well. We arrived 3 hours earlier than checking time and people were checking out this was coyrtiously explained our luggage securly stored away. When we returned we went to our room which we found to be large, clean and well stocked there were the usual bath gel ect, but also a hair brush comb even dicretely wrapped items of ladies personal hygiene even a razor and shaving cream for the men.
the bed was extremley comfortable and if you had a special request for a certain type of pillow, it would be obtained for you.
the restaurant and bar were superb but the restaurant lact an atmosphere in the evenings although the food made up for it.
in taste presentation and price.
Breakfast was fantastic so much choice and the only tinned fruit I noticed was pinapple and cherries which i should imagine are out of season.
But most of all the staff in all areas were curtious and seemed to be genuinly be happy in thier work and made every efford to understand the english.
thank you nhHotel we will be back

Hotel was of a very good quality, with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast choice was superb and on until 10:30 - handy if you are suffering from too much Dreher the night before. On the 8th floor were leisure facilities - small gym, sauna, solarium and offers of therapeutic massages (booked in advance) for very reasonable prices of around £18 for one hour of Thai massage - ideal after two long days of sightseeing. All in all a very enjoyable stay and highly recommended hotel with close links by tram to all that Budapest has to offer. Alpharooms came up trumps for us.

Well located. Room thoughtfully designed with everything you want in the right place and attractive contemporary design. Great to have a really powerful power shower! Helpful staff who were happy to explain where to find alternative restaurants. Quiet aircon. Breakfast choice excellent. Excellent value for money. Only criticism, the breakfast fruit salad could have been fresh rather than tinned.

I cannot complement this hotel enough, it is a modern style 4 star hotel with the service to match.
Located just off the main road, which is ideal as the noise from the trams is quite loud when you sit in the bars/snack bars along the road, you will not notice the noise in the hotel at all.
Stayed in room 212, twin as a double with a cot for a <1 year old child, the receptionist stated that the room was slightly larger than standard, there was sufficient space in the room, so if you have a smaller standard room dont expect acres of space.
Excellent lighting systems in the room, air con, bathroom small, but wow what a powerful shower.
Room was exceptionally clean, nice touches such as smints and chocolates on the pillow (including in the cot).
Breakfast was superb, excellent choice and replenished well, service was great and also discreet.
The "After work bar" was nice and relaxing, beer cost HUF 600 (about £1.90) which for a 4 star hotel is cheap, a cocktail (Strawberry daquiri) cost HUF1350 (about £3.80), service was quick and professional.
The hotels location is good, you probably will not need a tram or bus, we walked everywhere.
I can thouroughly reccommend this hotel if you are staying in Budapest, it is one of the best 4 star hotels I have stayed in (I also work in hotels, so I know the standards). If you can get this for £160 for 3 nights B & B as I did go for it, you will not regret it.
