Dated but pleasant

Villa 37B. Beds a little uncomfortable. TV size of my iPad. Construction of new villa opposite ours. Dangerous broken floor tiles. Good open areas. Brilliant helpful staff. Great Wifi and free with €50 deposit. Decent pool. Walking distance to Cabanas restaurants. 4 mins drive to Tavira centre. Yes, would return again.

The best thing about my stay was...

Away from it all.

A lovely little place

My 3 year old son and I stayed for a week and we loved it. The studio was well arranged, clean and had everything you might need. The grounds were really well groomed, the pool + baby pool was fab and the arrangements to get to beach (short 'train' + boat trip) were a nice touch. The beach itself was really nice, but there is no shade apart from the costly onsite umbrellas so check the closet in your studio to see if you have a complimentary umbrella or buy one for £7 at one of the shops on the way to the beach. The food at the hotel at night (buffet) was very nice, but the snack bar was average and costly. Best to venture out to the local cafes for lunch or do it yourself in your studio. Food in the village was top notch-- best BBQ steaks and fish I've had in years. I would definitely go back.

The best thing about my stay was...

weather + local food

stopover

just stayed here on route to Spain after a late delayed flight to Faro. Despite heavy rain over a long period leading to patches of mould on the outside this appeared to be a nice place to stay. Apartments were well stocked with clean equipment and the gardens are mature. Good value

good value resort perfect for families or for relaxation

This was our first holiday abroad with our two boys (aged 5 & 7), and I started to get worried when I read some mixed reviews of this resort but thankfully I only agreed with the positive ones! We'd booked a one bedroom apartment and it was suprisingly spacious, had air-con in both bedroom and lounge, a TV (my kids will watch cartoons in any language), bath/shower, nice outside patio and fresh towels/bins emptied every day. The resort has lots of accomodation but it is very spread out, surrounded by attractive gardens and you don't feel overlooked at all. The pool isn't huge but was rarely too busy (even in peak school holiday season) and has a large cafe at the side with a good value and quality snack menu (and great strong coffee). We didn't try the restaurant as it was a set menu buffet which I didn't think the kids would like but there is plenty of choice in town (our favourite was the Dona Ines restaurant on main road into town which did HUGE portions of fresh fish, good kids meals and all quite reasonablly priced. The supermarket has plenty of choice, great fresh bread and is reasonably priced. Our favourite thing in Cabanas was the beach, the boys loved the 2-minute boat trip every day, the sea is clean and there is loads of space to spread out on the beach. We rented two sun loungers and umbrella on the first day but this costs £12-£15 euros (!) so the next day bought our own umbrella for £7.50 and used this all week. Would also recommend taking your own food/drink as the main cafe on the beach is a bit pricey. Tavira was good for a bit of culture (visited the castle/churches) and some nice riverside cafes but all the shops in the centre are either tourist shops or pharmacies, think you'd have to go to the out of town shopping centre for more. Didn't travel further than this as we didn't rent a car but it was nice just to relax for a week. Would recommend njoyportugal.com for airport transfer, only cost £60 for the round trip and was a very efficient service. Don't come here if you want clubs (though I expect Tavira has some) but it was great for a relaxing family beach/pool holiday and I' definitely go again.

Review of 'Pedras da Rainha' Cabanas

Pedras is a simple Algarvian style village set in lovely well maintained grounds.
The accommodation is simple yet stylish (Whitewashed interior with terracotta tiles)and contains all you will need for a fantastic holiday - (with the possible exception of Air Conditioning).
Set about 5 mins walk from the town of Cabanas it has a great pool, a restaurant, snack bar and a supermarket on-site. The town of Cabanas is sleepy - not for the teeny boppers but great for a quiet, relaxed, kick back holiday. Loads of restaurants, from the fancy to the modest Mammas and Pappas type and fantastic value in both wine and food. If you don't love fish you will be a little disappointed as the steaks are better suited to shoe mending then the gourmet dining experience.
The highlight of this resort is the unique beach which is accessed by free boat and ads a desert island experience to the holiday. The sand is so clean and the water has a Blue Flag.
Get into the slow lane of life and leave the hassled rush and dash behind when you stay in Pedras, Cabanas.

Review of 'PEDRAS DA RAINHA'

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Pedras Da Rainha. At the time of booking there was very little information available about this accommodation so I was unsure exactly what to expect. The accommodation is laid out in a village style with bungalows and villas. The grounds and the swimming pool areas were immaculate. There is nice childrens play area which some shade and strangely enough there is a pen with some reindeer next to it. However there is so much space outside the accommodation that our toddler was happy to play outside with a paddling pool and a ball.
My first impression of the village was fantastic but this was short lived when we were allocated our accommodation. We were travelling with a 2 year old toddler and our villa was set out over three floors with steep spiral stairs. We spoke to reception and found them to be extremely helpful. They did not have stair gates but instead we were shown two alternative bungalows with accommodation on a single level which were available and given the choice of a two bed or a one bed with air con. An hour later once the bungalow had been cleaned we settled in. The facilities are quite basic but very clean and there was maid service every day except Sunday with towells changed regularly.
The supermarket on site was well stocked although predictably quite pricey but there is another one two minutes down the road or a bigger cheaper one nearby in Tavira. There is a formal restaurant by the swimming pool as well as a bar serving snacks. We ate in the bar twice and found the service excellent and the food good and reasonably priced. The restaurant offers more selection but didn't open til 7pm. On the one night that our toddler was up and we would have been able to eat there for some reason it didn't open until nearer 7.30 so we gave up and ate in the bar.
On a slightly downside the resort was quite noisy at night, I'm not sure if it was from the road outside. During our stay it was extremely hot and air con would have made sleeping much more comfortable. Some sort of mosquito screens or nets would also be good as I was eaten alive at night in spite of using a repellent.
Cabanas itself is pleasant with a few bars and restaurants although we didn't go to the beach there. We travelled to the beach at Manta Rota is 10 mins along the road. We also travelled up to Albufeira and Quarteira, both about 45 mins to the waterparks and a fabulous park called Zoomarine with dolphin and sealion shows

Review of 'PEDRAS DA RAINHA'

An excellent family location, with organised activities for the children. On site supermarket was well stocked and fairly priced as was snack bar/cafe and excellent restaraunt.
Accomodation was basic but adequate and towels were changed every day except Sunday.Bedding changed each week or as required or requested,(my daughter had a nosebleed.)
Cleaners were in every day except Sunday and were friendly and thorough.
A good range of very good eating places in nearby Cabanas village with the fresh seafood highly recommended.
Average spend for family (2adults/daughter 12/son 8)was about £50 for a Restaraunt meal of high quality, including drinks,(at least two rounds!).
Area around was safe for children and a fantastic beach was a short boat ride away, the cost of which was included in issued passes at the complex.
Cost of sunbed hire introduced during our last week was 1.5 euro"s per day with umberellas free at complex , but a pricey 10 euro"s for two at the beach, but recommend that you take a bag with a drink and instead of sitting at beach you go for a walk,(beach is a sandbank and is about 4-5 miles long.).
Bags were left unnattended each day for up to 4 hours and were not interfered with at all,and everyone we spoke to had no problems or issues and many were planning return visits.
For a totally relaxing, friendly and reasonably priced complex and resort which is very flat so also suitable for the elderley I could not rate this place high enough.
Try it and see!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Review of 'PEDRAS DA RAINHA'

I had been to Pedras da Rainha before so I knew what to expect of the area which I hasten to add is a very nice complex indeed.

The complex it self consists of white painted appartments and surrounded by all sorts of flora so even walking around the grounds with its tennis courts, small deer enclosure and inter mingled pathways is a pleasure in itself.

On site they have their own Mini Market and there are two(very clean)pools(one for smaller children) and the larger that is set right next to the pool bar and resturant, there is also a very up market pool room and an on site childrens games person who will entertain the kids with evrything from football to table tennis to water polo and in peak season there is plenty of entertainment to keep the adults happy in the evening.

Very nearby is the river front area of Cabanas with its small bars and resturants and even in the hight of the season is still a pleasure to go and sit and eat at any time of day.

Across the river is Cabanas Beach and this can be reached by a very short boat trip again adding to the pleasure of the area and if you do not want to walk from Pedras to the front (3/4mins walk ) they have a very quaint train that will take you there.

If you want to go further there is the town of Tavira allthough bigger is still of nice bars resturants and shops not only along the river area but tucked away down the mass of little side streets.

The thing that put this visit apart from the other trips was the fact that booking on line with Alpha rooms only took about twenty Mins ( by the time I had made my mind up )And I wont divulge how much I had paid for my stay a Pedras before but I can assure the saving I made by booking with Alpha had made sure We had a few extra meals out In Tavira and also the apartment that we were allocated was bigger than the ones we had before when we took our thirteen year old Son.

Could go on for ever but I would just suggest if you want the best of all worlds go and check out Pedres Da Rainha and the surrounding areas, however if its loud clubbing dancing and yobs you want...........dont bother going there because you wont find it.

Regards

George

P.S Great Golf club just down the road also.

Review of 'PEDRAS DA RAINHA'

We have been to this complex three times now and have had nothing but a wonderful holiday, that area itself is as relaxed or as busy as you wish and I have always found the staff and the local people both frendly and welcome.

I could go on for ages, butI wont bore you! my advice, go and enjoy Pedras, the area around and the local food for yourself.

Trying to book a short break for April this year.

George
