ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL HOTEL AND GROUNDS. HAD A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY. BREAKFAST WAS LOVELY AND THE OUTDOOR AREA FOR EATING SAME IN WAS FAB. DID FIND PRICE OF SOFT DRINKS AND ALCOHOL VERY EXPENSIVE AND HENCE VERY RARELY DRANK IN HOTEL BUT GOT TAXI INTO ALVOR. WOULD HAVE STAYED AT HOTEL IF DRINKS WERE CHEAPER. GOLF FACILITIES ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. POOL AREA BEAUTIFUL. BUS SERVICE TO BEACH EXCELLENT BUT WOULD HAVE LIKED A LATER BUS COMING BACK. FACILITIES E.G. SUNBEDS, TOWELS, ETC., AT BEACH EXCELLENT. STAFF IN HOTEL VERY NICE AND HELPFUL. OUR BEDROOM DID NOT HAVE A VIEW OF THE POOL AS THAT WAS OVER OUR PRICE RANGE BUT OUR BEDROOM WAS STILL LOVELY AND SERVICED VERY REGULARLY. ALL IN ALL WE HAD A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY THERE AND WOULD DEFINITELY GO BACK IF WE GOT A GOOD DEAL
The best thing about my stay was ...
The fact that the hotel and grounds were beautiful.

Review of 'LE MERIDIEN PENINA'
Russell Vidler, Poynton, Cheshire, UK
Anybody expecting 5 Star luxury from the Penina will be disappointed. It is a good 4 Star resort and should be marketed as such. We have a 2 year old son and chose the Penina for the children's facilities. For this, the Penina is superb. Our son positively ran into the Penguin Village each morning and was happy for us to leave him with the excellent staff for a couple of hours, who are all qualified 1st aiders. Aside from the Penguin Village, the obvious attraction is the championship golf course, which also looked superb, although I didn't actually play any golf while I was there. It is clear that the hotel is populated almost exclusively by British holidaymakers and that consequently, the quality of the food suffered and was not up to 5 star standards. Without exception, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. We had a room overlooking the pool which was adequate, if a little shabby. Next time we book the Penina, we will probably try to e-mail the hotel in advance to find out if there are any Corporate Events taking place during our stay. Unfortunately, many of the restaurant staff were "stolen" for a corporate event on one evening we were there and our meal at The Grill a la carte restaurant was ruined as a result - waited 1.5 hours for starters and the food was appalling! On the other corporate evening we were there, we decided to get a taxi into Lagos, which is only 20 mins and 15 Euros. Massive swimming pool and plenty of sunbeds. Thankfully, they don't usually tolerate the individuals who like to reserve beds before sun up; the gates are locked until 9am. Some "society" golfers turned up at the pool on a couple of occasions, whose behaviour was unacceptable and inappropriate. We went to the beach on one occasion where the Penina has a plot of sunbeds and its own restaurant, but we didn't go back again. Not a bad beach and the restaurant was OK, but we just preferred the seclusion of the hotel, which is all alone in its own grounds. Basically, you couldn't walk out of the hotel in the evening and expect to wander around streets and shops, there's nothing nearby. All in all, we came back feeling very relaxed and because our son had such a great time, so did we. Anyone with young children should seriously consider the Penina for the kids facilities. I'll probably take my clubs next time too!
