Perfect family holiday
Great food and drink. Our son (2.5 years) loved the slides in the kids' pool making this the first enjoyable family holiday we've had. Staff are friendly. Nothing to do for party folk but great for couples and families.
The best thing about my stay was...Kids' pool with slides

Spent ten days here, the hotel itself is very well presented, the staff are very helpful and it's a perfect place to relax. The views are pure sea views and the beach although not golden sand are amazingly well looked after. Depending on what you are used to I would describe the food as OK, if you're used to British five star hotel food then this may feel slightly undeserving of five stars, you certainly won't find fillet steak here, however, there was always something that you will find to satisfy your hunger. The service generally was absolutely fantastic in every way, however, again if you're used to five star British style you will find the buffet restaurant service a little slow, on more than one occasion we had to find our own cutlery, or use a knife to stir our coffee. The waiting staff are brilliant at being non-intrusive, very polite and will help with any requests. The bedrooms are very well appointed, my only gripe is hard beds! Although we heard one person say their bed was lovely and soft! You can't please everyone I guess? The pool is freezing! But the lazy river is great! Take your pick.... Absolutely recommend transfers via alpha rooms in the mini bus...they meet you with a little sign with your name on it...we had a whole mini bus shared with one other couple....we laughed at the all the Thomson people crammed on their coaches...transfer is about 40-45 mins... Premium drinks are etc.. Bar closes at midnight..we thought this a very good idea as it keeps a very peaceful hotel at night... If you are after a relaxing holiday highly recommend this hotel, we would happily return despite my niggles with the place... There is a pharmacy across the road, two ladies clothes shops which my partner really liked, and said it was cheap! There are numerous restaurants if you get tired of the hotel food... There is a huge walkway at the rear of the hotel that goes on for miles... Very well put together and very flat, walks along the sea which are just great.... This is the best hotel in Almeria, we heard this from an English couple who live out there... If you are hesitating please don't...you will enjoy it...
The best thing about my stay was...Relaxation

Great 2 day stay.
Paul Davies, Stockport
Had a great 2 day stay last week, travelled down to join family who are there for a couple of weeks and enjoyed ourselves. Food good with excellent choice morning, lunch and pm. Kids aged 8 and 10 enjoyed poolside and various activities. Have been on a self catering apartment stay so a relaxing end to our holiday in Spain. Friendly staff though as only a short stay, not too much time to interact, comfortable clean rooms on the ground floor overlooking the pool. A good stay and would consider another visit.
The best thing about my stay was...An enjoyable couple of days with family - Hotel accommodated a table for 14 for a couple of days!

This is a fantastic hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. You could choose when you wanted clean towels and sheets by leaving a card on the bed or the towels in the bath, which I think is a brilliant idea. The only downfall, was that people were leaving their towels on the sunbeds and not using them until mid-day, so to get a decent sunbed you would need to get down there before breakfast starts at 8am. We had a nightmare with our taxi transfers and the reception staff were very helpful in resolving this for us. Overall we had a brilliant holiday and will definetly be looking to stay in the Protur Roquetas again.

Susie Wright, spain orihuela costa
From the moment we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff, every member of staff in hotel acknowlegded and made us feel part of the hotel, thought the standand very good, cleaners did an excellent job keeping the hotel to a high standard. Rooms nicely furnished with fridge and safe, modern bathroom. Food was fabulous, great choice and again to a high standard. liked the dining times 8.30 to 11am for breakfast and 7.30 to 10.30pm for evening meal. No rush, had tables outside as we like a smoke. Location excellent, on beach and close to shops and bars. Would definate go back worth paying that bit more and having luxury.
The best thing about my stay was...Great choice of good quality food and friendly staff

Review of 'Portobello 2010'
Amelia Fontan, Bromsgrove, England
We returned on 27 March 2007 from a 3 night stay at the Portobello and have to say that we were very impressed. It is very clean, the breakfast and evening meals are buffet style with a very wide choice. The two bars we went to were Suzi's (good for tapas) and the Carribbean Breezer (the couple of whom are excellent entertainers). Definitely would go back.

Review of 'PORTOBELLO 2010'
Simon Druce, Pontefract/England
The Portobello really is a 5 Star hotel, where you can indulge in spa treatments or relax and catch a tan. Which leads me to say the pool is fab with a very relaxing "lazy river" encircling it, so take or buy an inflatable ring. Sit on it and float away whilst burning up on the rays of sun.The hotel is right on the beach with a secure gate taking you through to the large seafront. It is also right by some very good shops and resturants( La Grappa, an Italian and Suzies; a Tapas bar). The rooms are neat and well presented; housing 2 queen size beds and a single size camp bed if required. Towels, complimentary toothbrushes etc are all thrown in and they all have aircon as standard. We only stayed B&B but those on half board said the evening meal was fine but a tad repetitive after 3 days or so.
All the staff( with the exception of 1 short, fat balding barman) were very helpful and polite. Nothing seemed too much trouble. All in all we had a great time and would return to the Portobello without hesitation, this time though, we may pay more for a top floor suite!! As a final add in, I would say this hotel is better suited for couples of any age and families who are looking to spend some quality time together in a relaxed, friendly enviroment without the threat of loud music and noisy groups of youngsters.
Go ahead, book it and look forward to forgetting about blighty for a bit!

we have just arrived back from 2 weeks stay in the portobello, the rooms are not big enough , you cant move about in them ,there are mostly germans in the hotel ,and the food was terrible we asked for a fried egg for breakfast and the chef started throwing pans about we got screamed at for asking , none of the staff speak english ,not one of them had a nice word or a smile , NO this hotel does not have what it takes to be 5 star , plus it says there are 3 resturants to choose from there arent , and when we were leaving we heard it was losing a star it caters mostly for the germans unless your happy to eat a salad for your tea for 14 nights,we have been going to roquetas for the last 20 years and would never ever stay here again ..

we were a little aprehensive about going to spain late in october with 2 boys age 10. what would there be for them to do if the weather was bad?? little did we know that almeria has sunshire all year round and we had a fantastic week.
the hotel portabello during the day is superb for children. the pool will keep them occupied for hours. around the outside of the 2 pools is a rafting pool, then there are 2 other pools, 1 a still sallt water and the other has 6 jacczi beds in it and it bubbles alday long! kids paradise.
the hotel is situated on the beach which is lovely and clean, infacct roquetas de mar is the cleanest place ive been to. half hour transfer from the airport.
back to the hotel, meals good..as usual the buffet style stuff but also a chef to cook things while you wait. champage for breakfast!!!
our room, although not large was spotlessly clean with a fantastic bathroom. maid service every day. although staff didnt speak much english they were very friendly.
out and about, bars, restaurants, bars and more restaurants. try the wild coyote bar grill, the ribs are to die for and very reasonable priced as are the rest of the bars etc.
the boys loved it and we will definately be going back again.
