Overall great hotel for the family all inclusive holiday
Lisa Joanne Jones, Swansea
Great facilities, great sea views. Rooms basic but clean, cleaned every couple of days and towels replaced with fresh. Stayed all inclusive, food plentiful and very nice, good variety but a little repetitive. Carved meat offered most evenings, usually pork. Often chicken and fish offered in other dishes. Plenty of chips and pasta and bolognese or pasta sauce available every day for picky children. Large family pool area with separate shallow pool for the kids with two small slides, the usual towel run in the morning as does not seem to be enough space for everyone. Another childrens pool located in a different part of the complex with water features and a small slide - though for some reason there are no sunbeds allowed at this pool. There is a shaded seating area and snack bar serving juice, hotdogs, burgers fries, popcorn and icecream at this pool, which is great for the kids, but it would have been nice to have been able to lay on a sunbed here and watch the kids in the pool as there was space for this. Water slides and lazy river area great but not suitable for the younger kids as non swimmers and children under 1.2m not allowed on the slides even with an adult. A seperate adults only pool is also located at the top of the complex at the end of a steep hill, Entertainment was good, nightly shows in the amphitheatre but this is away from the main bar (the only place that serves alcoholic drinks). There was however a lack of advertisememt for the shows and most of the time we missed them as we did not know what was on. Animation team great, often also arrange fun games during the day by the main family pool. The staff great, very helpful and friendly and I am still amazed at how many languages they understand as there is a wide range of nationalities using this hotel. The only and quite large annoyance I have with this hotel is that there are not enough staff and there seem to be too many people for the facilities. There is rarely not a big queue at the main bar and snack bar, and the staff are working as fast as they possibly can, but a few more would make a huge difference, even if just at peak times. There are queues at all counters at meal times and this was at any time during the service rather than just when the dining room opens. The hotel is located between Hersonissos and Stalis. The hotels free shuttle bus service takes you to Star Beach in Hersonissos, part of the Star Beach complex which I assume owns this part of the beach but is open to all and is free to enter. Star Beach offers some small beaches with sunbeds and umbrellas, lots of pools, slides, bars, snack bars, water sports and a bungee. You pay for sunbeds. You can walk here in around 15-20 mins though the pavement is narrow on a busy road which you need to cross and the walk back up the hill is tough in the heat - though you can catch the shuttle back at certain times. Hersonissos offers a few more small coves but no large sandy beach - if your after a large stunning sandy beach with a gradual decline into crystal clear water, head the other direction to Stalis. This is also walkable in around 30 mins. Lovely restaurants and bars in both resorts.

some good some bad
Dont go here if you are not fit ... very very steep slopes, and lots of stairs.. food plentiful but long queues... same with drinks long queues.. people pushing in and the drinks were not 'brand name', and very limited choice... Pools and complex was lovely and in our first week we got a sunbed no problem , our second week we struggled to get a sunbed... the worst thing was the evenings were dire absolutely NO entertainment at all .. and if you did manage to get a seat in the only bar area there was ( very small for so many people) you couldnt even entertain yourself (play cards etc ) as it was too dark... the beach they took you too was very small , the facilities and pools at Star beach were good but expensive (8 Euro for 2 sunbeds) and you were not allowed to take in your own food and drink.. (even your hotel packed lunch)
The best thing about my stay was...the complex was pretty and pools were good

Mareblue, a great base to explore a bit of Crete
Jean Boomer, Ballyclare
A lovely hotel with a nice greek feel. The food was fantastic especially the Greek food, staff were very friendly and extremely hard working which leads me to the only negative -- STAFFING ISSUE. The manager stood by watching as staff in dining room struggled to clear tables, when you went to eat there were always enough tables but none of them cleared - even in the hotel lobby and lounge, coffee tables always had piles of glasses on them. It looked terrible and made the hotel looked grubby! Where were all the staff, is the hotel trying to save money! I could have shaken the manager as he stood watching overworked staff. This needs to be sorted or hotel will be classed as 2 star. Bar was also badly understaffed.
The best thing about my stay was...Wonderful views, fantastic food and great staff.
