Fantastic value, service and location at The Sport Village.

Very attentive, helpful staff throughout the hotel. We arrived by motorbike, soaking wet and were helped with luggage and waterproofs to our rooms. We took advantage of the Spa in neighbouring L'Hermitage which was fabulous. Ask for a robe at reception in the Sport Village to take with you and directions through the back of the hotel. Be aware that you have to wear flip-flops throughout the spa and you aren't told this until you have booked in. If you don't take your own, they charge 12 euros a pair (which can be charged to your room). Breakfast is served right up to 10.15am which enables you to have that well deserved lie-in! All in all, top marks.

The best thing about my stay was...

Friendly, helpful staff in a well positioned, clean, bright hotel.

Great for the family

Having struggled to find a hotel which could accomodate 2 adults and 2 children under 6, we weren't sure what to expect from Sport Village. Well, it was exactly what we were after: - the shared room was split over two levels, allowing our children to go to bed without us having to go to bed at the same time; - the staff, especially the concierge, were well used to children and quickly made them feel welcome; and - the buffet dinner and breakfast ensured there was a wide enough range of food for everyone. Although we visited in the summer, Andorra was beautiful and the hotel had enough for everyone (spa, outdoor pool, gym, bar and quiet lounge area). Would love to visit during the ski season.

Sport Hotel - better than expected!

I had read some mixed reviews on this hotel but seeing as a) it suited our budget and b) all the hotels in Soldeu seem to get mixed reviews, we booked a week's half board accommodation there from 11-18 March 2007.

The best piece of advice I can give anybody visiting the Sport Hotel is to ignore the 4 stars on the door. It's not a 4-star hotel by any rational yardstick - no bar fridges in rooms, no fluffy robes, slightly worn furnishings, terrible soundproofing. It is, however, a three star - so if you go with that expectation in mind, you'll feel better already. Our room was large by European standards and (more by luck than anything else) faced directly up the pistes - it was always a pleasure to come back to the room at lunchtime or the end of the day and enjoy the view, either from our bed or our balcony. However, I imagine that if we'd had a room facing the back I would have felt differently. The room was very clean though, and there was space to spread our stuff out. The valence/night frill on the bed was, however, missing which made the room look more run-down than it actually was. I don't know if they just decided to ditch all valences, but it is pretty poor for a "4 star" hotel! But that was a minor quibble.

The bed was comfy with nice linen, but the pillows were not at all comfy (one too hard, one too soft). The downside of facing the mountain was the road noise - lots of trucks and buses and our double glazed door didn't seal properly, so you heard each and every one. Also, as other reviewers have said, the doors/walls are thin and you can hear every sound in the passage, although as we were at the end of a passage this really didn't bother us. Our room tended to get rather hot at night, but you can turn the radiator off, so this wasn't a big problem. There were very few kids in the hotel, which is nice if you don't have kids yourself.

I was pleasantly surprised at the food. It's a buffet for a mass of people, so do not arrive expecting Gordon Ramsay. But for what it is, I think they do a great job. There is a large selection (3 types of soup, vegetarian salads, fishy salads, cold meats and cheeses, various breads, a roast carvery, a speciality dish like tortilla or paella, grilled meat and fish (different every night) stew, vegetables etc

A very enjoyable stay at the Sport Hotel. Ideally located, warm and freindly staff, clean and peaceful. My partner and I stayed for 2 nights half board, for a stop off on our way down to Spain. The variety and quality of the food on offer was excellent. I would happily stay here again.

Review of 'SPORT'

I first stayed here in 1984, and the decor has remained the same since then. That's not to say it is not still a very nice hotel. It is both very clean and well maintained.

Rooms are fairly spacious in the main, though there are some rooms that are let at a slightly cheaper rate that are in the roof space and have limited head room for a tall guest. All rooms have private bathroom facilities and have a safe available (for a small fee at reception).

Food is excellent and available in "all you can gobble for a dollar" quantities.

There is live music entertainment several nights a week during the winter season, but this stops at 11PM so there is little interference with good sleeping. If you require a really quiet room, ask for one above floor 2.

Review of 'SPORT VILLAGE'

The Hotel is excellently placed immediately above the main mountain access point for Soldeu.

Rooms are spacious and all have private bathroom facilities. If possible ask for a room with a mountain view, as these have balconies for basking in sunshine should the weather allow.

The food is of a very high standard, and there is lots of it too, so don't think you will be losing weight on a holiday here.

The Bar and Lounge area has a panoramic view of the mountain and down the valley towards El Tarter.

Ski lockers are provided free to hotel residents, and there is a (planned 2007) under cover link between all hotels in the Sport chain (the Village, Hermitage and Sport hotel) and the new Calbo Health Spa.

Due to it's location immediately above the gondola station some of the rooms in that area can be rather noisy from early in the morning as the ski school and mountain restuarant staff are taken to work.

Most of the hotel rooms are built around two large covered light wells, and as such noise from the bar area can carry of an evening and disturb you if you are trying to get children to sleep. If you are planning on staying here with children ask for one of the rooms in the section of the hotel that is below the restuarant area, as these rooms are a lot quieter to stay in.

'SPORT VILLAGE - Soldeu, Andorra'

Very comfortable hotel, food standard was good. Problem was the room was very hot and as we were above a side street when we left the window open the noise of rubbish collecting during the night woke us up. Lounge area was very smoky after dinner. Drinks in the hotel very expensive. Soldeu itself was very quiet when we visited at the begining of August.

Review of 'SPORT'

Just back from a summer week at the hotel. Extremely clean hotel, excellent buffet style meals with lots of choice. When we arrived we were given a lovely room at the front of the hotel on 6th floor but it had no balcony. We were changed at our request on the 2nd day to a room with a balcony. The new room did have a balcony but it was beside the building work. The balcony was not private - shared with room next door. Rooms did not have air conditioning which was a downside on a couple of very hot nights. The independent traveller had to hunt out information about surrounding walks and places of interest.
