The title says it all. We arrived at the Kolymbia Star an hour late because of the inefficient transfer schedule laid on by Thomas Cook. We were told that there was no evening meal set aside for us and there was a roll left in the fridge in our room. For a four star I expected to find a porter help to take our luggage up to our rooms and we were told that this did not exist, but the reception could find someone if we needed help. I insisted and she eventually got a barman to help us. When we got to the room, we found these two rolls, one each which looked like there had been in the fridge for a day and something I would not give my dog. I went back to the receptionist and confirmed my discontentment and I was told that there were snacks available at the bar by the pool. We duly left and arrived at the pool and was told that all he had was pizzas. We ordered two and was informed by the barman George that these needed to be paid for which I was not happy with to say the least. I returned to reception and demanded to see the Manager and after heated exchange of words, he shook my hand saying if he paid for the Pizzas, would that be an end to the matter, to which we did and we got our pizzas and drinks. This should not have been an issue for a 4* hotel as all other hotels, with "All Inclusive" facilities, be it 4* or less have had some sort of meal available for late arrivals, especially as it was not in their control as to how the transfers were organised and in this case Thomas Cook tried to scrimp by putting too many hotels on one coach, making the drop offs three times as long. Needless to say the manager from there on always approached me and shook my hand asking how I was and I am not sure if this was because he was worried that I would start complaining again, or a genuine hand of friendship. Breakfast: The variety was limited, but the food was hot and tasty, however considering that they offered "English Breakfasts," they only put out quarter plates rather than dinner plates to try and make you take smaller portions. This was not in consideration for the guests, but to save on the food consumption. Main Meals: Variety was fair to good and the meals were hot and tasty, however the sweets had a problem. If you wanted a particular sweet, you had to grab it with you starter, otherwise you lost it as it would not be replenished. When I spoke ti Yanis, who was a very friendly and honest man, very committed and proud and concerned of what the guests thought of his produce, said that the sweets were ordered in and the quantities were allocated not by demand, but how many was available for that hotel, which meant that twenty were allocated even if the demand was for thirty. This in my view is not 4* service by any means. The Restaurant Manager was one of my favourite people, modest, polite always happy and very very hard working, in fact he used to work harder that all his staff put together. Snacks: This was below than average for a 4* hotel, you were offered cake, but had to ask for it and if you did not know, you did not get. There was no variety, you got what you were given. Entertainment: I can honestly say that this was the worst entertainment programme I have ever come across in all my years of travel. The guy who claimed to be Tunisian was arrogant and genuinely believed that he was brilliant, unfortunately for him he was the only one that believed it. Even the things he organised were always late and people used to leave as they were tired waiting for him to start the entertainment. The only priority he had was the "Tombola" and all his shows were designed to denigrate volunteers that came on to the stage, sometimes pulled up there against their will. This was not 4* entertainment. If you wanted to get away, the small shopping area of Kolymbia about thirty minutes away by foot, otherwise the place was quite deserted. Cleanliness: Cannot fault them on this. The place was spotless, the rooms were cleaned everyday, the towels were replaced daily. Television: Channels were limited to one English Channel and the television was antiquated and I would expected a better set in a 4* Hotel. There was no Safe in the room even if you wanted to pay for the service. We were fortunate to have had an opportunity to hire a car from Rodos, who were in the hotel. The price was good, the car was new and there was no fears of additional extras added on at the end or the taking of credit card details. If it wasn't for the car, I think the rating would have probably been a one and that would have been for the food and cleanliness and of course Yanis the chef and the restaurant manager, who I have on video celebrating his birthday, but cannot remember his name.
The best thing about my stay was...Hiring a car and leaving the hotel till our return at dinner time.

Very good hotel
Peter Wadham, Northumberland, UK
My wife and I stayed for a week in early June 2010 at this hotel. The room was excellent with aircon, balcony and full en-suite. The whole hotel is immaculate and all the staff are very pleasant and helpfull. The hotel is about 5 mins walk from the beach, and about 15 mins walk from the centre of the resort. There are only a couple of downsides - the bar was very expensive and the food was OK but no more than that. Definitely in the 4 star category and we would stay there again. I would rate this as 9 out of 10 !
