Business stay at Swallow Greens

I stayed at the Greens for one night in October 2006 whilst in Edinburgh on business. The hotel is situated only 5 minutes from Haymarket Station and there are also many bus connections both to the city centre (15 - 20 minutes walk) or Edinburgh Airport (Approx. 20 mins away). The hotel is situated in a quiet Edwardian Style Crescent, the only drawback is that parking is limited, although additional parking is available at Haymarket Rail Station. Please be aware that the Traffic Wardens are keen! The Hotel accomodation is in keeping with the style, maybe a little old fashioned but this is in keeping with the area and the room was clean and tidy. The wardrobe also contained both ironing board and iron allowing business travellers tom ensure crisp clean lines on their suits. Breakfast is served in the Garden Restaurant and consisted of a continental or full Scottish Breakfast.Thoroughly Recommended.

Review of 'SWALLOW GREENS'

Hotel was nicely presented but lacking in a number of respects - the room was large but decor was dated; the bathroom had a short bath and no shower; the lift can only be described as ancient with manual doors that were often left open by guests, making the lift unavailable for others, resulting in a regular walk up to the third floor; the dining room is too small for the number of guests at the peak breakfast rush; and the local parking wardens are so efficient that a stay at the hotel is also likely to result in a parking fine!

Short stay at 'GREENS'

I stayed at Greens for a couple of nights in January 2005. It's at the posher end of town; there's a stop for the airport bus just down the street and it's about 30mins walk into the main shopping area. The hotel was very well presented, the staff friendly, the food delicious. The lounge would be a good place to relax and chat to other guests, though it was empty during my visit.
My only caution is for light sleepers: the windows are single-glazed and don't cut out the sound of the traffic outside. Also my room turned out to be haunted by the noise of gushing water (from a hidden pipe I assume).
Aside from that, this is a good 3 star hotel, especially worthwhile if you can get a reduced rate.
