A very good choice for a short stay in Rome

I travelled with my teenage daughter and the hotel was ideal for us. The room was clean and quiet with a lovely bathroom and excellent air-conditioning - something we needed in August. There was plenty of choice for breakfast and on the third day we realised we could ask for cappucino rather than the very strong filter coffee or Earl Grey tea. We travelled by taxi, but lots of buses seemed to pass the hotel. The hotel restaurant was expensive, but there was a restaurant just across the road which was very nice and very reasonable. The hotel staff were helpful and efficient, if not overly-friendly, which suited us.

The best thing about my stay was...

The luxurious bathroom

Excellent Location

This is our second stay at the Cicerone Hotel and we still found the hotel very clean and well organised. We had booked a double but had two singles pushed together which wasn't that comfortable and the pillows were very hard but the aircon was fantastic to come back to after temperatures of 40 degrees! Apart from the odd exception the reception staff are quite dismissive of you and you feel that you are being a nuisance if you ask anything. Having said this the hotel is in a quiet location and excellent for reaching all sorts of different tourist areas and i would recommend this hotel.

RK, Belfast

Actually ended up in this hotel by accident, had booked Grand Hotel Ritz, but due to a problem with our room on arrival the manager very kindly had a taxi standing by to greet us to take us to Hotel Cicerone (same hotel chain), which we were delighted to find was in a much better location, practially a stone's throw from the Vatican. The Hotel is very impressive, from the opulent looking reception, to the swanky bar. Our room was brilliant, with more amenities than we required, and a bed that could easily sleep about 12 people! We didn't spend much time in the hotel, but the time we did couldn't have been better. Each morning I had room service booked to bring us breakfast at 8am, and you could have set your watch by them!! Nothing like still warm croissants, fantastic espressos, and a big jug of smooth coffee to set you up for the day ahead. If my coin toss into the Trevi fountain mean's I'll be back in Rome anytime soon, I'll be staying at this hotel.

Will never return

On our first night we were given a corner room that faced the main road. It was so noisy that we asked to be moved the next day. On returning the second night we discovered that a water pipe had burst in the celing and that the water was dripping into the room. I placed a number of calls to the front desk that were ignored until I eventually had to go down to the reception desk before anyone responded. It was only after much insistance that the staff decided to move us. They thought that 2 buckets in the room would suffice overnight until the pipes could be fixed in the morning. Never mind the soaking carpet!!!!!. The tv in our third room did not work and to top it all off the room was not made-up on our return the third night. The staff were unpleasant and not at all helpful. I will never return to this hotel.

Would definitely go back

We're always very wary about booking hotels online as you are almost guaranteed that the plush, state of the art images you see on the website bear no resemblance to the reality. The Cicerone was the exception to the rule. We used the pre-bookable transfer service from the airport which was money well spent. Our driver was from Rome and couldn't wait to share the city with us. He practically gave us a guided tour! The staff were consistently friendly and couldn't do enough to help us. The hotel itself lived up to our expectations as it was clean, fresh line change every day. Room service was prompt, which you should expect at 7 euros! What more can you ask? The piano bar was great to come back to after a busy day on the tourist trail. Full of atmosphere, We even had some dancing one night! Keep an eye on your tab though. It's the sort of place you can very easily get carried away in and regret it in the morning. Our double bed was fabulous. It must have been Super king or something. V. Comfortable. Cicerone was one of our best online booking hotel experiences to date and I would definitely recommend it.

Loved the Hotel Cicerone, we'll be back

Great Hotel, nice clean rooms, great service, very helpful staff, brilliant hot and cold buffet breakfast.

Located only 5 minutes walk behind Castel St Angelo, so ideal for Vatican City and not far for everywhere else of interest, even for my 80 year old father-in-law and my teenage kids.

Next time we come to Rome, we'll be back at the Hotel Cicerone, Ciao

Review of 'Cicerone'

Hotel was well located i.e. walking distance to main places of interest. Staff were very friendly, courteous and helpful.
Rooms were spacious but in need of modernisation/ refurbishment. Room where breakfast was served was badly located in that when large (tour) groups arrived for meals a queque formed down the stairs to the lobby. Having said that, service was fast.
Despite above comments, would still recommend and use again

Review of 'Cicerone'

We stayed at the Hotel Cicerone in Nov 2006 on our first visit to Rome. The room we were given was on the first floor and was easily accessible from outside via an external staircase. This was a worry as the patio door lock was flimsy...luckily there were external steel shutters which could be pulled down.As many others have stated the bed pillows are uncomfortable and after one cooked breakfast we didnt bother again. The cold breakfast was fine. They were the only negative points we encountered. The hotel is very clean and the bar cool...great bar snacks free!!
Prati turned out to be a fanatastic area to stay and we were able to walk to all of the sights, even the Collosieum which looked miles away on the map was easy walking distance. We discovered several restaurants/cafe's/pizzarias nearby the hotel frequented by Romans and great value compaired with those across the river. Also there was a great Irish bar named Morrisons opposite the hotel with free bar snacks early evening.Would definatley recommend the Prati area to stay.
